How did the proposal happen?

At Christmas Max put some presents in front of me that spelt out ‘Will You Marry Me?’ The last present had a tag that said, ‘Check your new bag’ and inside the bag was my ring! It was perfect.

The Dress

I feel like the ivory ‘Mary’ dress by Maggie Sottero was actually made for me and I knew Max would love it. Wedding Ideas introduced me to Maggie Sottero and I fell in love with their dresses from pouring over copies of the magazine. It was fitted and strapless with lots of ruffles and a long train. The neckline was sweetheart with a lace up back. I bought it from Hammonds in Bedford and had the flowers and gems removed to keep it simple.

The Accessories

I wore a very plain two layer, waist-length veil with a small bracelet and single diamond stud earrings. I am terrible in heels so wore pointed lace flats instead.

The Groom

Max wore a light grey three-piece suit from Next with a white shirt, blush pink tie and pocket square. He looked so gorgeous – I couldn’t believe he was marrying me!

The Bridesmaids

Their floor-length, one shoulder, blush pink bridesmaids dresses were from ASOS. As their wedding gifts I bought all the bridesmaids sparkly gold clutch bags which they used on the day.

The Ceremony

We had a simple civil ceremony at Fairway Tavern in Welwyn Garden City. My dad walked me down the aisle.

The details

I spent a huge amount of time and effort on the little details and decorations. I had
a clear vision in my mind of what I wanted. There were hurricane vases in different sizes with pillar candles inside all over the reception room, gold crackle tealights and holders on the tables, fairy lights in jars outside, gold table numbers, a champagne sequin tablecloth for the cake table and little bags of circle and heart shaped confetti in gold and white. I was so happy with how pretty everything looked when it came together.

What did you have for your Wedding Breakfast?

We had antipasti for starter with cold meats and cheeses, followed by lamb rump marinated in bourbon and black treacle with rosemary roast potatoes for main and then chocolate brownies with Chantilly cream.

The Flowers

Our flowers were from Anna’s Flowers in Bedford. She is so talented – they were the most beautiful flowers I had ever seen! They were a selection of cream and blush roses, peonies, lily of the valley and gypsophila. Anna also put in some sweet peas which made them smell amazing!

The Cake

It was all white with champagne and gold hearts on top, made from vanilla sponge with a vanilla buttercream filling.

The stationery

We used lots of different companies for our stationery and found most of it on etsy.com.

The Wedding Favours

The guests were given little bags of sweets and packets of poppy seeds.

The Speeches

Max prepared his speech beforehand but the groomsmen were all very drunk so I had to improvise when none of them went to give out the thank you presents! Their speeches were brilliant, well-written and very funny though!

The Honeymoon

We haven’t actually been yet but are going to go to Mexico or Barbados. We want to find a nice hotel on the beach and relax, and maybe enjoy a few excursions like swimming with dolphins or taking a glass bottom boat trip.

Memorable Moments

Seeing each other for the first time is a memory that neither of us will ever forget. The speeches were so funny and personal, we were really pleased with them. I love how we surprised our mums by grabbing them and dancing with them halfway through our rst dance. It was a lovely touch for a truly perfect day.

Ella and Max’s TOP TIPS!

Choose your wedding party carefully. People who love you will be there to help things run smoothly for you during such a stressful time. My maid of honour, Jayde was a godsend.

Decide on your budget then give yourself more than enough time to pay it all off. We paid for our photographer one month and then the next we cleared some bookings.

When it comes to planning, grooms should help where they need to help. Don’t forget to delegate some of the jobs to your bridesmaids, they’re there to help and are usually eager to.
