Downton Abbey has proved such a huge hit on televisions over the winter/spring, with it’s tale of forbidden love and romantic undertones throughout it’s proved a big hit in the wedding world.

If you’re looking for some serious Edwardian or Downton Abbey wedding inspiration for your big day, wedding photography supremo Lissa Alexandra Photography gives us a visual feast with this fabulous pastel photoshoot.

Over to you Lissa…

“Helen Guy (make-up artist) asked me if I’d like to be involved in a themed bridal shoot at the stunning Sewerby Hall in Bridlington. After a few emails and a supplier’s meeting our theme was established as ‘Downton Abbey wedding in Pastels’.

First stop was a visit to Sewerby Hall in Bridlington, this is a council owned house, and is often used as a wedding venue. The exterior is exquisitely stylish and positioned facing out to sea on the East Coast. The grounds are extensive with endless photo opportunities.

This venue visit really got the ideas flowing, so next stop was on to find our perfect dresses. Myself, Helen and Rachel (from Simply Vintage Events) went to see Kelly at Atken Bridal Gallery and she very kindly gave us the choice of all her shop. Talk about being spoilt for choice – she had so many lovely dresses to choose from! I think the favourites on the day were the pastel bridemaids dresses, they were perfect for the shoot and very unique!

From seeing the shoot location for the Downton Abbey wedding, and having picked the dresses I started to create a storyboard of photographic scenes to shoot.

Whilst doing this I came up with the idea of using my Grandma’s dog, Lucy the Lurcher! I thought she’d be perfect for the theme and the shot of Jess (the model) with her is my favourite. Another great prop was the vintage wedding car from Home James. You can’t beat an old classic car to add a bit of glamour.

The Downton Abbey wedding day went so fast and was really good fun, due to weather and time we didn’t do all the planned shots, but everyone was happy with what we got.

I hope this collection of photographs will inspire lots of lovely brides-to-be with their wedding ideas, and to fall in love with the prettiness of pastels!”
