The popularity of the classic period TV drama, Downton Abbey has sparked an art deco jewellery revival!
The classic British jewellers, Beaverbrooks, which was founded 95 years ago in the same era as the drama series, has seen a huge surge in sales of art deco, ‘Downton’ style jewellery.
They tell us that the favourites among shoppers include Lady Mary style ornate pearl-drop earrings, Edwardian design lockets, and pendant necklaces as worn by Lady Cora. They’ve also seen a growing trend in gemstone cocktail rings, as sported by the female cast in the latest series.
Lorna Burhouse, the Diamond and Jewellery Buyer for Beaverbrooks says: “The popularity of Downton Abbey and its beautiful costumes has inspired a whole new demand for 1900s fashion accessories and jewels. There has been a clear move away from big, brash and loud statement jewellery pieces, and a return to delicate, refined, vintage Edwardian designs.
“Beaverbrooks is synonymous with British heritage and many of our new designs are rooted in the Edwardian era, so we’re not surprised that the Era and 1919 Collections have been such a hit with jewellery lovers.”
