Here at Wedding Ideas, we’re totally in love with the 1920s! Top bridal designer Amanda Wyatt talks to us about Downton fever and why the 1920s are so trendy for Christmas 2012 weddings.
Since the very first episode in back in 2010, Downton Abbey has not only reached millions of viewers but has gathered a following of women everywhere lusting after the fashions of the 1920s. Featuring jewel embellished gowns and dreamy crystal accessories, 1920s fashion embodies a femininity that is minimal yet stylish. It’s no wonder Downton Abbey is becoming one of the hottest 2013 wedding trends.
A good 1920s style is all about the accessories. Think feathers, sparkly Art Deco-style jewels and draped, free-flowing fabrics. However, the look is open to interpretation, depending on just how far you want to take it!
Add a touch of old-school glamour and play up your vintage style with faux fur wraps and boleros that winter chill at bay – especially useful for any Christmas brides. You could even add a pair of silk or lace bridal gloves as a chic finishing touch. With many bridal designers adding accessory lines to their labels, just ask your bridal boutique for their advice on how to create the perfect look! After all, they are the experts.
If you want a wedding dress that has a subtle nod to the Downton era, look for long dresses with beading details, elegant cover-ups and unstructured elements. ‘Petra’ from the latest collection is perfect for a 1920s-inspired Christmas wedding. Made from a heavy chiffon, it drapes beautifully at the back… what more could a 20s-inspired girl ask for?
With the vintage era always referenced by bridal designers for both gowns and accessories and with Baz Luhrmann’s take on The Great Gatsby coming out next year, it looks like the influence of the 1920s is here to stay a little while longer.
