Pom poms are going to be big news for 2013 and 2014 weddings – they are quick and fun to make, they come in a multitude of colours and they can be as big or as small as you like!
Hanging decorations from the venue’s ceiling is a top trend for weddings right now, so why not have a go at making them yourself? Go bright and bold for a fantastic summer party or add a vintage touch to your big day with creams, ivories and pastels. Let’s get started…
What you’ll need
- Coloured tissue paper
- Scissors
- Craft wire
- Cotton for hanging
Instructions
Layer 13-14 sheets of tissue paper on top of each other. If you use more sheets your pom poms will be much fuller and denser.
Concertina the paper like an accordion.
Pinch the middle and hold your paper in place.
Fold the paper in half, and squeeze the crease in the middle tightly.
Cut off a small amount of your craft wire.
Bend craft wire along the crease that you made earlier, and twist to secure. At this point also make a little hook from your craft wire, this is so you can hang them later.
Trim the ends of your tissue paper into rounded or pointed shapes.
Open out your paper and start to fan the pom pom out on the table.
Gently pull each layer of tissue paper upwards and fluff and pull until each layer is separated. Be careful, though, this paper is really easy to tear!
To finish, find the little wire hook that you made earlier, thread some cotton through and hang!
