How they met
“David and I met in 2005, through a mutual love of ice hockey. He happened to be coaching the team I played for, and as he came skating over, I just thought ‘wow’!” remembers Lucy. “When he told me on our first date that he loved my ‘beady eyes’ (I think he meant sparkly!), I knew life with David would never be boring!” she adds.
The bride’s outfit
Lucy wore a gorgeous Grecian style dress from elegance-of-wirral.co.uk. “I had seen Maggie Sottero’s ‘Ireland’ on the internet and although everyone kept telling me ‘you’ll never buy the first dress you see’ – I did!” It was a beautiful but simple gown with sparkly crystal detailing and a diamanté waistband Lucy’s accessories were inspired by their winter wonderland theme and included a ‘Let it Snow’ tiara and the ‘Snowflake’ necklace from eastbeachdesigns.co.uk. “My shoes were bespoke, made by bespokebigday.co.uk. On the day I hoisted up my dress so everyone could see my little shoes glistening in the snow!” recalls Lucy.
The groom’s outfit
David wanted traditional attire for his groomsmen so chose a graphite-colour suit from slaters.co.uk. “There was an iffy moment when David tried on a top hat, but it was too close to Christmas and he really looked like Scrooge!” laughs Lucy.

Lucy had five bridesmaids; her two best friends, her twin sisters’ and also David’s sister.

“I made one rule for myself that when it came to dresses I wanted my girls to feel like they were going to a glamorous Christmas party, so got them evening dresses from next.co.uk,” explains Lucy. She also spoilt her bridesmaids with a snowflake necklace and Swarovski snowflake hair pin.
“Try not to take things too seriously and just enjoy the experience as it unfolds. We were really tested to the extreme because of the weather conditions. Mum had to go to A&E after slipping on the ice, guests were stranded and cars got stuck, but we kept on smiling!”
“I didn’t expect the ceremony to be so emotional,” says Lucy. “David grabbed my hands tightly and said ‘don’t cry, flower’ – which really made me smile, and I felt like there wasn’t anywhere else in the world I’d rather be,” adds Lucy.
Stationery designer Lucy, (lucyledger.com) made everything herself incorporating Christmas colours with a vintage twist.
The happy couple opted for a luxurious forest hideaway in York (griffonforest.co.uk), staying in log cabins, with their own private outdoor hot tubs!
