Christmas has overtaken Valentine’s Day as the most popular time to propose, according to new research.

Christmas-proposalFigures released by online wedding directory Guides for Brides show that lovers across the UK are choosing to go down on bended knee amidst the deep mid winter rather than the more traditional love fest that is Valentine’s Day.

A straw poll showed that a proposal of marriage amongst family and festivities was deemed far more sentimental and romantic, with 85 per cent of people asked choosing the Christmas season to pop the question.

These results are backed up by statistics taken from the Guides for Brides website that show 7,000 more brides-to-be registered on the online wedding directory and planner for the first time, in the four weeks following Christmas compared to the same period after Valentine’s Day.
