One of the most prestigious prizes at the Wedding Ideas Awards is Best Wedding Photographer – an accolade picked up this year by Chris Barber.
“I don’t think I’ve ever been nominated for an award before,” says Chris. “I once entered a Jack Whitehall look-a-like competition but this feels a little more prestigious! Over the last 12 months, I have learnt that my style isn’t about being vintage or even about being on trend. It’s not even about being alternative or quirky. My work is what it is – my couples being themselves and I love that. I think this, if nothing else, is what makes my work unique. I get a huge kick out of seeing people open up in front of camera and pushing wedding photography to its creative limits whilst creating work that resonates with the people I photograph and those who know them.”

Chris was super shocked by his win on the night but he’s been a favourite of Wedding Ideas readers for a long time. “Chris Barber’s wedding photography is fun, fresh and contemporary,” says Alice Rimes, Real-life Wedding writer for Wedding Ideas.
“He captures the laughter and intimate moments of the big day perfectly and his candid shots are among some of the best we’ve seen in our real-life wedding section.”
Real brides and judges alike loved Chris’ wedding photographs because they weren’t overly stylised. “I don’t want to create a glazed over, artificially sweetened version of you. It’s just unapologetically you,” says our winner.
