This lovely couple had a winter wedding with traditional carols, mulled wine and a turkey dinner!
A sunny beach in South Wales presented the perfect opportunity for Chris to propose to Carolyn. “I thought we were just having a nice walk in the winter sun, so his proposal really caught me off guard,” Carolyn says. “He’d secretly asked my boss if I could have the Monday off work, and booked us into a beautiful hotel in the Brecon Beacons to celebrate,” she adds. “He’d also asked my mum’s permission, which I was happy about because my dad had passed away many years before.”
The bride’s outfit
Carolyn found the dress she was dreaming of at Matchmakers in Brentwood. The Martina Liana gown was made of dupion silk, with a lace-up corset, ruched bodice and a crystal beaded belt. A tiara slide, also from Matchmakers, and peep- toe shoes with a crystal brooch detail from Paradox completed her winter wedding outfit.
The groom’s outfit
The men’s suits were hired from Moss Hire. Chris wore traditional black tails with grey pinstripe trousers, cream waistcoat and a caramel cravat, while the best man and ushers wore navy cravats to co-ordinate with the bridesmaids.
Chris’ three sisters and Carolyn’s two nieces were Carolyn’s bridesmaids. The four elder girls wore navy blue dresses from Coast complete with faux fur shrugs, while the youngest looked as pretty as a picture in a lace-bodiced dress which flowed out into a fairytale organza skirt, also completing her look with a faux fur shrug.
Carolyn and Chris had a festive celebration, where the congregation sang traditional Christmas carols: Silent Night, O Come all ye Faithful and Ding Dong Merrily on High. “Singing at full volume with my friends and family took all my nerves away,” smiles Carolyn.
The couple warmed their guests up on arrival with mulled wine around the log burner before sitting down to a turkey dinner with all the trimmings. “We decorated with church candles, ivy and snowflake confetti, and swapped the baubles on the Christmas tree for navy blue ones, to fit our colour scheme,” says Carolyn. “The Christmas decorations looked beautiful with twinkling fairy lights.”
The lucky couple splashed out on not one, but two amazing honeymoons! The first was to Lapland to visit Father Christmas, and then on to South Africa and Mozambique for New Year – now that’s a festive holiday!
