For this pair of lovebirds, there could be only one wedding theme… a pretty pastel-themed vintage wedding full of – you got it – birds!

How they met

Carly and Liam got to know each other at school, but it wasn’t until after they had left that a mutual friend put them in touch, and romance began to blossom. “I remembered Liam as being very tall, which was definitely an attractive trait,” smiles Carly.

The proposal

Liam planned the perfect proposal for his teacher bride. “He’d been sending suspicious texts all day saying that he’d left something in my car and need to come in to retrieve it,” Carly recalls. “Then, just before the end of the day, a rather excitable colleague knocked on my classroom door and dragged me to the window, where I saw that Liam had draped the car with a huge banner asking, ‘Miss Lee… Will you marry me?'”

To her surprise, Carly fell for her ‘wildcard’ dress – a sweetheart design with a ruched chiffon bodice by Maggie Sottero. “I was sure that I wanted something lacy and embellished with beads, but this dress was beyond perfection,” Carly explains. “It’s true that the dress picks you – I just knew it was ‘the one’.”

The groom’s outfit

Liam and his groomsmen wore stylish silver-grey Ted Baker suits from the Moss Bros outlet at McArthur Glen.

The bridesmaids

Carly searched high and low for the perfect bridesmaids’ dresses. “I found exactly the right style on the Coast website, but they didn’t have the soft pink colour that I wanted,” she says. She eventually found the gowns, in the ideal colour, in the Coast outlet store.

The ceremony

Carly and Liam were married in a civil ceremony at Ringwood Hall Hotel. “It was important to tie the knot and party in one place, because we had guests travelling from afar,” Carly explains.

The reception

The couple’s reception took place in Ringwood Hall’s coach house. They chose a lovebirds theme, and decorated with hand-sewn birds as table numbers, birdcages dressed with flowers and bird-shaped table confetti. Carly and Liam even extended the theme to their first dance – Eva Cassidy’s Songbird.

The newlyweds spent their honeymoon driving along the Atlantic coast of America, from New York to Miami.
