Nautical but nice! Briody and Dominic’s nautical wedding buoyed everyone’s spirits – we LOVE all the sailing-inspired details, all with a vintage twist.

How they met

Briody and Dominic met in 2006, and had their date over a pizza. “I was starving, but I didn’t want to seem greedy so I only had one slice,” Briody remembers. “I then had to sit there and watch Dom eat all the rest, my stomach was rumbling!”

The proposal

Dominic took his bride-to-be by surprise with his romantic proposal. “He asked me to marry him on the beach in Egypt, beneath a full moon,” Briody smiles. “I was totally surprised.”

Briody was the picture of elegance in her Mark Lesley gown, with its A-line style, chiffon over-layer and detailed pearl and diamanté bodice. “My dress was well fitted and comfortable, which was important as I wanted to feel relaxed all day and still feel like a princess,” says Briody. She completed her look with a tiara, a single pearl necklace and a sparkling bracelet given to her by Dominic on her 21st birthday.

The groom’s outfit

Dominic chose a classic navy tailcoat with pinstripe trousers and an ivory cravat, hired from Moss Bros. “His normal attire is boardies and flip-flops so I was blown away by how smart he looked,” Briody recalls.

The bridesmaids

Briody was attended by her sister who wore a fishtail-style, champagne sating dress from Kelsey Rose, and her little niece who looked adorable in a delicate ivory dress from Tesco.

The ceremony

The majestic Malmesbury Abbey was the setting for Briody and Dominic’s ceremony. “The few minutes I spent outside gathering my thoughts were absolutely magical,” Briody says. “The whole service was beautiful, but saying our vows was a special moment – we forgot that anyone else was in the room.”

The reception

The celebrations continued at the beautiful Kingscote Barn, with a vintage nautical-themed reception. “We didn’t need to do much to make the barn look amazing, but we added some personal details like buoys, anchors and handmade sailing boats as favours,” Briody explains.

The honeymoon

The newlyweds honeymooned in the stunning Cancun, Mexico, where they indulged their passion for sailing as well as swimming with dolphins and sea lions.
