Until you enter the hectic world of wedding planning and dress shopping, it’s strange to imagine that modern fashion trends have any impact on what brides or bridesmaids wear to a wedding.
The royal influence
The royal wedding continues to influence bridal catwalks, as lots of beautiful lace wedding dresses were sent down the runway during Bridal Fashion Week. Delicate lace sleeves and illusion necklines take the detailing one step further to create gorgeous pieces with a definite wow factor.
It’s all in the detail
Plunging backs and keyhole details lead the way for bare shoulders and backs this year. Designers are incorporating cowl and strapless details into their dresses, for an elegant spring/summer look.
In contrast, dresses with full length sleeves and high necks are also popular this year, giving brides-to-be an endless choice of silhouettes for their big day.
A splash of colour
Colour is big news for 2013, with traditional white being cast off by some brides in favour of more exciting pastel shades; in particular mint and rose coloured dresses are the top choice for the more adventurous brides.
During Bridal Fashion Week, Vera Wang showed off some bold red wedding dresses that are bound to have some women racing to recreate the look.
Tulle love it!
Tulle is the number one choice for die-hard romantics, creating added drama for bridal and bridesmaid dresses this year. Flower girls look adorable wearing tulle gowns in muted colours, while the bride captures all the attention in full tulle skirts with delicate layering.
Don’t forget the girls
Bridesmaid dresses are becoming more colourful, with brighter hues featuring more prominently. Even black is becoming a popular choice for bridesmaids dresses because of it’s versatility.
