Anna and Ben met online six years ago “we had both cancelled the first two dates with each other so I wasn’t particularly hopeful when we arranged to meet outside Café Boheme on Old Compton Street in London,”says Anna.“ But I’m so glad I went – I remember him making me laugh so much! It was definitely third time lucky!”
Ben later said he fell for gorgeous Anna the minute she ordered steak and chips during the date! A year later the loved-up couple moved in together and Ben proposed during a romantic weekend getaway in Lake Como to celebrate their fifth anniversary of dating. “We were walking through some beautiful gardens when Ben asked me if he thought we would be together forever,” Anna recalls. “I looked across to see he was holding the exact ring I had spotted in a window shop in Bath two months earlier. He had it delivered days before we left for Italy.”
Anna’s Justin Alexander dress was bought from Perfect Day, near her father’s home in Bath. “As soon as I saw the dress, I knew it was ‘the one’!” she says. The ivory, strapless dress featured a beautiful silk bodice to accentuate her waist and was complemented by a pair of gorgeous gold diamanté Jimmy Choo heels and a silver Tiffany necklace – a gift from Anna’s mother. Her diamanté and pearl drop earrings were purchased from Not On The High Street and she wore diamanté clips from Accessorize in her hair. Anna’s five bridesmaids wore elegant floor-length navy gowns from Coast and the flower girls wore pretty dresses from BHS.
The civil service took place at Cain Manor – a beautiful Elizabethan-style manor house near Farnham. Anna walked down the aisle with her father to the sounds of a solo harpist, she says her dad was very emotional but still managed to support her because she was
a “wreck” as they walked down towards Ben. The couple had ‘Yes I’ll Marry You My Dear’ by Pam Ayres, a reading from a Kurt Vonnegut novel and a piece by Henry James as readings. As the couple were pronounced man and wife, Ben grabbed Anna for the biggest hug ever! At the reception – also at – guests were treated to a lavish wedding breakfast consisting of ham hock with quail egg and asparagus for starters, roast
beef for the main course and a chocolate melting pot with Jack Daniel’s ice cream to finish. Ben had two ‘best men’ who gave a joint speech and quoted his favourite author, Kurt Vonnegut – also quoted once more during his own speech which was all about his beautiful bride. “It was quite long – but lovely!” laughs Anna.
Anna cut out images of bouquets she’d seen in Wedding Ideas to help inspire her florist, Rosie Orr. Event Planners, Oakwood Events decorated the venue’s oak beams and balcony with fairy lights and Anna picked up beautiful cream heart frames and decorative birds from Etsy. The three-tiered chocolate, fruit and vanilla sponge cake was from Waitrose and Anna handmade gorgeous pillow boxes filled with Love Hearts and stamped with the wedding date as favours. “I made all the name tags myself after seeing an feature in Wedding Ideas, too,” she adds. Guests were treated to a sweet table and giant chess board outside on the lawn. The couple chose At Last by Etta James as their first dance and the live band played a song by Oasis which had all the guests gather in a circle while Ben and Anna danced in the middle at the end of the night. “It was impromptu and just brilliant,” Anna says. And no doubt it was definitely the most amazing end to an amazing day!
