How they met

“We met at work, and we were friends for a long time before we eventually got together,” remembers Frances. “We weren’t meant to be on a date, we were just meeting at a pub in Hammersmith by the Thames. As we continued our pub crawl along by the river, we ended up kissing in the Old Ship pub, and the rest is history!”

The proposal

“The proposal was like a fairytale,” smiles Frances. “Mark recreated our first date, walking along the Thames 18 months to the day we got together. We visited all the pubs we’d been to before, and then he popped the question in the Old Ship. However, that was just the start! A car then whisked us away to a 5-star hotel, with Champagne on ice and where I was told we had a table booked at a Michelin-starred restaurant for later that night. I was so excited, but said to Mark ‘I have nothing to wear,’ to which he replied ‘look in the wardrobe.’ Hanging up inside was the most beautiful dress that I’d been eyeing up on the Internet a few months before. And if that wasn’t enough, when I didn’t think it could get any better, Mark handed me another present – a guidebook to Venice. We flew out the very next day!” beams Frances

The bridesmaids

Frances gave her bridesmaids the choice to wear any dress they liked as long as it was ivory. They chose dresses from Debenhams and Monsoon

The ceremony

“Perhaps the most amusing moment of the wedding was the reading. One of our ushers, Martyn, was due to read an extract from Captain Corelli’s Mandolin. He got up and very dead pan, said, ‘Mark and Frances have asked me to read a passage from one of their favourite books’… and visible to all was the cover of 50 Shades of Grey. The timing was perfect and even the registrar struggled to compose herself,” laughs Frances

The reception

“The venue was amazing so it didn’t need a huge amount of decoration. We had white pom poms hanging from the trees, and candles and flowers in the chapel, civil service room and wedding breakfast room.”

The honeymoon

The couple left the next day for their honeymoon to Morocco.
