Industry insider Alison used her on–the–job knowledge to create her dream day. With an English country garden theme and a bespoke wedding dress this summer wedding was perfect for Alison and Stephen…
How they met
Alison and Stephen met through mutual friends whilst Alison was at university. “Our first date was in a little café opposite the university, and my friends kept embarrassing me by walking past and spying on us,” laughs Alison.
Stephen proposed to Alison on the last night of their holiday in Portugal, having bought the ring nine months earlier! “We went for a walk around the marina, and Steve told me to strike a pose for a photo,” Alison recalls. “When I turned back to face him, he was down on one knee. It was a completely unexpected moment and an amazing surprise.”
The bride’s outfit
Alison had her heart set on a simple and elegant dress to fit the wedding venue.”I wanted a high neck, and narrowed it down to two dresses and that’s where the creativity began,” she explains. “I worked with Nicola at the boutique, Blushes, and together we customised one of the designs to create my dream bespoke wedding dress. I felt a million dollars and had lots of compliments on my gown.”
The groom’s outfit
Stephen opted for traditional slate grey tails from Greenwoods 1860 with a dark purple cravat. “We chose the groomsmen’s suits together, but when I saw Steve on our wedding day, he looked even better than he had at the fittings,” Alison says. “I was determined not to cry, but he took my breath away.”
The three bridesmaids wore deep purple knee–length dresses with a V neck and back from high street favourite Marks & Spencer.
Alison and Stephen were married in a civil ceremony in the cider press at Woodthorpe hall. “I work in the wedding industry and really enjoy the simplicity of a civil ceremony,” explains Alison.
The reception was held in a marquee, with an English country garden theme. “We had an oval table and sat in the middle of our guests, which was lovely as everyone was close to us,” Alison says. The marquee was decorated with bay trees, birdcages, bunting and a vintage archway, and Band 34 got everyone up and dancing.
The newlyweds honeymooned in the USA, taking in the bright lights of New York, San Francisco and Las Vegas.
