With news of 19-year-old Miley Cyrus’ recent engagement, debate has been flying around whether or not her age gap relationship means that she is too young to get married.
You could argue that Miley Cyrus, even though a teenager, has had plenty of life experience being the successful Disney superstar that she is – having her own television show, selling records and winning many awards. The age a person is and their maturity aren’t always balanced – a 16 year old could have the maturity of a 30 year old, and a 30 year old the maturity of a 16 year old.
Not all young people lack the maturity and ability to make a lifelong decision and commitment. On the flip side, statistics show that younger marriages have a higher risk of divorce. Marriage is a huge commitment, so why rush? Being legally old enough to make the commitment, doesn’t mean that you necessarily should.
