The proposal

“Dan proposed to me on the morning of our 10-year anniversary,” explains Lisa. “We had gone away for a few days to a beautiful cottage on the coast in Fishguard in Wales to celebrate. Dan had told me the night before that he’d bought me a present but that it was only something small. On the morning of our anniversary he gave me breakfast in bed and took me completely by surprise by asking me to marry him at exactly 8.55am, which is the exact time that he had asked me out 10 years before – just as the bell was about to go for our first lesson of the day at 9am. I was in my pyjamas but luckily had taken a minute to brush my teeth!”

The bride’s outfit

“My wedding gown was ‘Eleanor’ by Cymbeline,” smiles Lisa. “She was a wonderful, fitted design, in a very delicate lace, with lovely little straps. I accessorised with a beautiful Sassi Holford sash, which sat just under the bust and tied in a bow at the back.”

The groom’s outfit

Dan wore a three-piece Kenneth Cole suit from House of Fraser. The couple decided on a lounge suit together, as they thought it would best suit their informal wedding style

The bridesmaids

Lisa’s sister found the perfect bridesmaid dresses from Coast. “The fuchsia provided a nice contrast to the soft pinks, creams and greens that we used for the decor and flowers,” says Lisa. To find more budget-friendly bridesmaid dresses, check out our Bridesmaid section.

The ceremony

Was a civil service at Chequers Inn. “I walked down the aisle to Charlene Soraia’s Wherever You Will Go, we signed the register to Six Pence None The Richer’s Kiss Me (which brings back many happy memories from our teenage years), followed by Ellie Goulding’s Your Song. We walked back up the aisle to Take That’s Greatest Day,” explains Lisa

The reception

“Our ceremony and reception both took place at Chequers Inn at Woolsthorpe by Belvoir, a rustic country pub,” recalls Lisa. “Food was really important when choosing our venue, and we wanted somewhere that would give our guests a choice of meals. The food at the Chequers is amazing. Mandy, their wedding co-ordinator, was brilliant and let us pretty much create our own wedding menu, allowing guests to choose from three options for each course,” she adds

The honeymoon

“The day after the wedding we had a big barbecue with all our family and friends, and then we went on our honeymoon two days after the wedding. We spent six nights in Sri Lanka touring the country, followed by another seven nights in the Maldives,” says Lisa.
