The proposal

“I had been studying for my postgrad diploma, so I hadn’t really had much chance to spend time with Stuart,” explains Alix. “As a reward for the hard studying, Stuart surprised me with a trip to the Algarve. It was supposed to be warm and sunny, but it wasn’t, it rained constantly! It was also supposed to be a luxury hotel, but it wasn’t, and we were the youngest by about 40 years! Apparently the hotel is popular with the older generation in the winter. I thought it was hilarious, but Stuart was quite stressed about the whole thing. He proposed on the beach on our last day there,” recalls Alix

Alix’s pleated-pretty dress was a beautiful Stephanie Allin gown. “What I adored the most about the dress was the bow at the side. It detaches, so you can change the bow from ivory to a colour of your choice. Ruth from Ellie Sanderson had a brainwave to dye the bow in the same colour as my bridesmaids’ dresses. So that’s what I did, and in the evening I changed the bow to a deep brown,” explains Alix

The groom’s outfit

The groom and his ushers hired their suits from Moss Bros

The bridesmaids

The chocolate dresses from Coast set the theme of the day for Alix. Each girl also wore a unique necklace that she felt best suited their personalities

“I adored the detachable bow on the side of my dress. I changed the colour for the evening party”

The ceremony

“We opted for a civil ceremony because neither of us are religious. To bring atmosphere to the room,we hired a string quartet who performed a mixture of classical and modern pieces. I especially loved that they learnt Ain’t No Sunshine by Bill Withers to play while Dad and I walked down the aisle. That song is particularly special to the both of us,” smiles Alix

The flowers

“All our flowers were designed by W Flowers. They were fabulous to work with, and incredibly creative,” recalls Alix

The reception

Braxted Park, was always going to be the best choice for Alix and Stuart’s evening party. Acclaim Food provided the catering, with a fantastic winter menu, while The Cheese Shed made their alternative wedding cheese cake, that the extra evening guests enjoyed as part of a really scrumptious buffet

“Dad and I walked down the aisle to Ain’t No Sunshine because that song is special to us”

The entertainment

The resident DJ at Braxted Park played everything and anything that the couple asked for, and anything he didn’t have, he could download Silver Sparkle Mobile Disco

The honeymoon

“We took a minimoon to Prague the day after the wedding. This was a super-special time – the Christmas markets had just opened and we were full of newlywed excitement,” remembers Alix.
