The force was with Sophie and Tom on their vintage-meets-Star Wars themed wedding day.

The proposal

Tom proposed to Sophie the day after their friends’ engagement party. “Tom’s friends spent the entire night mocking him for not having proposed yet,” laughs Sophie. “Then the next day, my birthday, he handed me a card addressed ‘to my fiancée,’ and inside the envelope was a gorgeous amethyst and diamond ring. It was extra special as our children were there as I put the ring on.”

The bride’s outfit

Sophie spent a long time searching for her perfect dress. “I’d tried on quite a few, but nothing felt right,” she explains. She eventually found her dream gown at Shay Harris Bridal Lounge – a Jenny Packham design in ivory silk and tulle. “I fell in love with it the moment I put it on – the flowing material made me feel like I was floating,” Sophie says. “My son Ryan was with me when I tried it on, and I was really nervous that he would tell Tom what it was like, but luckily, he didn’t!” Tom&Sophie-363

The groom’s outfit

Tom wore a black morning suit from Moss Bros with a silver waistcoat and a pink silk tie from Marks & Spencer. “The best man and our little boys dressed to match him,” smiles Sophie. “I didn’t think Tom would go for a traditional look, but he pulled it off wonderfully. I couldn’t take my eyes off him.” Tom&Sophie-096

The bridesmaids

Sophie was attended by her two close friends, with her niece Holly as junior bridesmaid. The adults wore dresses from Debenhams with their own choice of shoes and accessories, while Holly wore a dress bought online. Tom&Sophie-418

The ceremony

The couple tied the knot in a civil ceremony in the Crystal Room at Bartley Lodge Hotel. “I’ll never forget the expression on Tom’s face as I walked down the aisle,” Sophie recalls. “It was a look of pure love, and so many people commented on how lovely it was. I will treasure that forever.”

The reception

Fun was the theme for Sophie and Tom’s reception. “We wanted a day full of surprises,” explains Sophie. “We wanted to work with the venue’s 1940s style, and as we got married on Star Wars Day – May the 4th – we included elements from the films, and even hired from stormtroopers to entertain our guests.” The couple decorated with tissue garlands and pom poms, glass bottles and decanters, sequin hearts and vintage Star Wars prints. They chose a three-tier naked cake layered with buttercream and berries, and provided garden games and a homemade photobooth. Tom&Sophie-517

The honeymoon

Sophie and Tom travelled to Barcelona, where they visited Gaudi Park, took a catamaran cruise and ate ice creams on the beach.
