Rachel and Chris chose a blue and ivory theme for their elegant spring wedding, with pretty bird motifs and scattered flower petals to decorate their venue…
How they met
Rachel and Chris met at college where they were studying the same course. “It took us a year to get together, but every time I saw Chris I got butterflies,” says Rachel. “He was my first and only love.”
Chris got down on one knee on the beach when they were on holiday in Cyprus. “He gave me the most beautiful ring,” Rachel recalls. “I was very surprised – he’d asked my mum and dad’s permission, but I had no idea!”
The bride’s outfit
Rachel found her Jasmine gown at a bargain price in Something Old, Something New, a bridal boutique selling ex-sample dresses. The taffeta dress featured a pleated asymmetric bodice and beaded lace appliqués. “I felt the most beautiful I had ever felt and bought it there and then, 14 months before the big day,” Rachel smiles. She accessorised with a lace keyhole shrug and a pearl and crystal hair comb.
The groom’s outfit
Chris wore a slim-fit slate grey suit by FCUK at Moss Bros, with an ivory waistcoat and royal blue cravat. “Chris picked it all himself, and I didn’t see his outfit until our wedding day,” Rachel explains.
Rachel’s talented grandmother made the bridesmaids’ dresses, with input from Rachel and her mum. The maids of honour wore full-length navy chiffon styles, while the younger maids had pretty floaty dresses with a blue bodice and skirts dressed with flower petals.
Rachel and Chris said ‘I do’ in a religious ceremony. “I was very nervous walking into the church, but it was so lovely to see our families smiling at me,” Rachel says. “After we’d said our vows, it was an amazing feeling to realise we had done it – we were actually married.”
The reception was held at an elegant country house hotel. “We didn’t plan a set theme, but we ended up with royal blue and ivory, with birds on everything,” says Rachel. The tables were scattered with rose petals, vases and candles, and the bride arranged the displays of artificial flowers herself.
Rachel’s dad treated the newlyweds to a dream honeymoon in the Maldives, where they snorkelled, relaxed on the beach and went on a dolphin safari.
