The proposal

“We got engaged in the Seychelles during our first holiday together,” remembers Kate. “It wasn’t a traditional proposal, because Ben didn’t go down on one knee. He had planned to, but the beach where it was supposed to happen was crawling with scuttling crabs and I think he got too scared!” laughs Kate. The proposal eventually took place on their balcony, overlooking beautiful views of the sea

The bride’s outfit

After looking through a selection of magazines, Kate had her heart set on a Jenny Packham gown for her real wedding abroad. None of the bridal shops in Dubai (where Kate was living at the time) stocked the dresses, so she had to take a risk and order one through a different boutique. Luckily, when the day came to try her dress on, she knew she had made the right decision. “I felt so happy and amazing. I couldn’t wait for the day to come when Ben would see me walking down the aisle to him in this beautiful dress,” recalls Kate

The accessories

The bride wore stunning fresh white orchids in her hair and a set of beautiful pearl earrings, given to her by her Mum. Her silver strappy Prada sandals perfectly matched the crystal detailing on the dress – and were a bargain at 70% off in a sale!

“I couldn’t wait for the day when I could walk down the aisle to Ben wearing such a beautiful gown”

The groom’s outfit

Ben gets our vote as a seriously stylish groom. We love his light-grey wool suit, tailored in Dubai by an ex-Saville Row designer

The bridesmaids

Kate picked the two girls that she had grown up with to be her bridesmaids. On the day of the real wedding, it was exactly 21 years since the four girls had first met. To tie in with the relaxed feel of the day, Kate just asked them to wear a black dress with silver accessories. The blushing bride was also accompanied by three super-cute flowergirls – Ben’s nieces and a Goddaughter wearing white

The ceremony

The real wedding abroad took place in the beautiful Palace Sponza in Dubrovnik – a gothic renaissance building built in the 16th century. “Everything was so fantastically decorated, I felt like I’d just walked on to a movie set,” remembers Kate

The reception

“We wanted an elegant black and white wedding, so chose black table cloths, which were such a contrast with the live white orchid table centres,” says Kate. Lanterns were also strung from the trees and candles were placed around the terrace. Everything began to twinkle as the sun went down

“When I saw the palace decorated so beautifully, I felt like I’d just walked on to a movie set”

The speeches

“The best man’s speech was incredible. He had designed and printed a magazine about Ben’s life, including pictures, photos and funny little stories that hadn’t made it into the speech,” laughs Kate

The honeymoon

The blissful newlyweds stayed on in Dubrovnik, Croatia for an extra week after the real wedding abroad, but have also planned a trip to visit Hong Kong and Vietnam later this year.
