When real-life bride Lucy Woods visited Cyprus on holiday, she knew exactly where she was going to get married! Lucy reveals all about her big-day planning, the wedding and a whole lot more!
Myself and my partner Oliver met through mutual friends, when we were just 17. Things moved pretty quickly between us and on Christmas Day 2005, in front of my parents, Oliver proposed. I knew instantly that I wanted to get married abroad but the question was where?
That following year we went to Cyprus for a few weeks. We visited the harbour on numerous occasions and one evening we watched as a fabulous yacht, called the Ocean Flyer, moored up at the harbour. There was a party going on and I remember Ollie saying to me; ‘wow, how good would it be to have a party on there?’
The following day, we walked down to the harbour to get a closer look at the yacht. The guys on board said we could have a look around. I felt like royalty, it was amazing. One of the staff came up to see us and I asked about the party the night before. When he said it was a wedding and that weddings could take place aboard the yacht I was sold, there and then!
Planning the big day
We arranged the wedding for 11th September 2012, but it felt like a lifetime away. Every day I was looking at photos of weddings and wishing time would hurry up. I was more and more excited the closer it got.
I knew the weather would be warm in Cyprus, so I decided on a lightweight dress. It was a gorgeous Romantica of Devon gown – perfect for the sunshine. Ollie went for a Mohair lightweight material suit, which he managed to wear for the whole ceremony.
We married at the stunning St Pauls Pillar (Ayia Kyriaki) church in Paphos centre. The ceremony was amazing, and thanks to Exclusive Yacht Weddings, we have a DVD of our vows that we’ll cherish for a lifetime.
We surprised our guests with a big, red, open-top bus to take them to the church. It was a fantastic surprise and they all thoroughly enjoyed the trip down. I also surprised Ollie and his best man with a BMW convertible to take them to the church. He loved it!
The highlight of our wedding transportation was my horse and carriage that Exclusive Yacht Weddings organised for me. Since I was a little girl I’ve always dreamed of going to my wedding on a horse and carriage, it felt like a dream come true.
Treated like royalty
On board the Ocean Flyer we had the Admirals Package. It was fully inclusive with drinks, food and a reception on board the yacht.
During the wedding reception we had numerous surprises arranged by my parents. The best surprise of the night was the stunning fireworks display on the back of the yacht. They were utterly fantastic!
Our night didn’t end there. Ollie and I waved the guests back to their hotels and boarded the yacht to spend the night in the gorgeous honeymoon suite. We enjoyed Champagne, chocolates and watched the night go by. This was the most magical end to what was the most perfect day of our lives.
I can’t wait to renew my vows. I wonder if Ollie would agree to it for our 5 year anniversary… if I can wait that long!
