This real wedding had hot pink, bubbles and butterflies… A fresh and modern celebration bursting with colour and laughter…

WHERE: St Mary’s Church, Hemel Hempstead
WHEN: June 2010
PHOTOGRAPHER: Binky Nixon
How they met
Childhood sweethearts Natalie and James met at a theatre group, aged 15. “I thought he was gorgeous, but he kept running away from me!” laughs Natalie. “Luckily, his sister gave me his number, and the rest is history.” James proposed over dinner on Christmas Eve 2008. “I was so shocked; I thought I’d be 40 before he got round to asking,” says Natalie
The bride’s outfit
Natalie felt like a princess for her real wedding in her crystal encrusted lace gown in a beautiful colour by Charlotte Balbier. “I’d spotted it in a magazine, and as soon as I saw it in real life, I knew it was the one,” says Natalie. A sparkling tiara from Confetti and crystal-scattered veil were the real wedding finishing touches, although Natalie’s choice of underwear was less glamorous: “I spent a fortune on sexy lingerie, but for the sake of comfort, ended up wearing huge granny pants!” she laughs. Very Bridget Jones!

The groom’s outfit
Having decided on a sharp, modern look throughout their real wedding, James chose a dark grey colour designer suit from Jasper Conran at Debenhams, with his cerise pink tie giving the stylish ensemble a modern splash of colour
Unable to decide between her closest friends and relatives, Natalie was escorted down the aisle by a staggering nine bridesmaids for her real wedding! “The three older girls wore bright pink knee-length dresses from Coast Stores, while the little ones wore pink dresses from Debenhams,” says Natalie. “I let them have free rein with their accessories and shoes”
Fun-loving Natalie hired a ‘bubble car’ to chauffeur her on her big day. “As soon as I heard about a car that blew bubbles out of the back, I had to have it,” she says
After the ceremony the reception was held at The Pendley Manor Hotel, Tring. “We had lots of tea lights, pink butterfly table confetti from Paperchase and flower fairy messages for the younger guests from Juicy Lucy Designs,” says Natalie. “We also hired chair covers with sashes from Venue Covers”
With their big day coinciding with England’s first World Cup match, Natalie and James hired a big screen to show the game live. Afterwards, band back2funk and DJ Malachi got everyone dancing.
