It was real wedding romance all the way for this happy couple, with their fun and funky red heart theme…
WHO: Zoe and Philip
WHERE: Unitarian Meeting House, Ipswich and Manor Farm, Henley, Suffolk
WHEN: July 2009
PHOTOGRAPHER: Paul Armes
It was a long engagement for Zoe and Philip – Philip popped the question back in 2000, when the couple were just 19, while out on a romantic walk. “We chose the ring together, but after wearing it constantly for nine and a half years, I had to have the diamond reset before we got married!” says Zoe
“We weren’t inspired by celebrity weddings – our big day was all about us, and only us!”
The bride’s outfit
Thrifty Zoe decided on a second-hand dress for her summer real wedding. “I feel so sorry for all those beautiful wedding dresses that only get worn once!” she says. Her pre-loved, halterneck Linea Raffaelli gown was a steal at £200 from eBay. To match the couple’s funky red heart wedding theme, she teamed the dress with eye-catching high heels emblazoned with red hearts from irregularchoice.com. A chunky pearl necklace and a flower in her hair finished the look – pefect for the summer!
The groom’s outfit
Philip was the driving force behind the couple’s vibrant red colour scheme for the summer wedding. He chose a traditional grey morning suit from Coes, Ipswich, offset by a striking crimson tie
Zoe chose her best friend Keith as her ‘bridesman!’ for the real wedding “He was so involved, helping me choose my dress and shoes and looking after all the guests that were staying nearby,” she explains. He wore the same slick morning suit as Philip and his best man
“Philip and his best man turned up at the church in a vintage Triumph Stag, while I arrived in my own VW camper van, driven by my Dad,” says Zoe. The couple also hired a red Routemaster bus to transport guests to the reception venue in style
Manor Farm, Henley was a riot of colour, especially red. “There were hearts everywhere, on everything from the table confetti to the fairy lights – even my underwear!” laughs Zoe
The square three-tier cake was made by cakessupreme.co.uk, with bold stripes of red, white and black icing and, of course, more hearts!
Wedding guests were treated to personalised Love Heart sweets from personaliseyourwedding.com, inscribed with the happy couple’s names and real wedding date.
