This lovely couple opted for a Christmas, vintage theme for their gorgeous December wedding, and it looked beautiful!
Amy and Matt first met at the London School Of Musical Theatre, where they were cast as husband and wife in a Shakespeare adaptation, and soon friendship turned into something more. Their first date was a walk through the old streets of Greenwich, somewhere Amy had never been, stopping for a picnic of Prosecco and strawberries just “watching the world go by,” Amy says.
A treasure hunt was how Matt chose to propose. Tricking Amy into thinking they were having a date night she was led around their flat hunting for clues! The last clue led her to her handsome groom in their living room where he was down on one knee with a lego box he had made. Amy opened it up to reveal the most beautiful ring she had ever seen! Once she finally managed to answer Matt with a ‘yes’ they popped open the champagne he had hidden in the fridge and called all their friends and family.
This pretty bride opted for the ‘Pixie’ lace gown by Charlotte Balbier, which she found at The Wedding Company in Plymouth. She bought the dress in a bigger size and got it altered to fit her like a glove by the “lovely” Mrs Way. Amy had two bridesmaids and three adorable flowergirls, they all wore high street gowns from Monsoon and Debenhams – matching completely by chance!
Matt went for a three piece suit from Next with a silver tie and handkerchief, he didn’t want the men to wear matching suits but they did all match their ties, looking really handsome. Amy decided to do her own make-up but invested in the Clinique skincare range and foundation, which she highly recommends! The couple had a civil ceremony at the stunning Coombe Trenchard, she had two of her best friends do a speech all about how her and Matt met keeping it a surprise for her groom – it made them both cry!
Because their wedding was at Christmas time they decided to make the speeches less formal, instead gathering everyone around for their own rendition of The Twelve Days of Christmas – The Twelve Days of Marriage, of course! They had rung up loved ones before their big day asking for their tips and advice, incorporating it into the song, which everyone loved! Amy’s mum learnt how to do flower arranging so made all the bouquets and arrangements, while their THREE cakes were all made by lovely friends, including Abi who runs her own cupcake business called Bake Eat Love.
Because Amy and Matt went for a December wedding the theme was vintage Christmas! They were lucky with their venue as the owner, Sarah was able to dress it with her own Christmas decorations, making the house look beautiful! Amy and her friends had a mini adventure the day before “tottering around in heels” trying to find a tree, they finally found one and it worked amazingly with the venue. The bride says she bought Wedding Ideas every month throughout the planning process and even got her centrepiece idea from here – pine cone bowls. She also created baskets with fir cones, jam jars with candy canes and they made the children an entertainment pack with a Christmas colouring in book.
Their stationery was all handmade, and they spent ages dying sheet music to look older for their table numbers and reserved signs. Favours were in the form of hessian bags with little labels, filled with humbugs, a lego figure and Christmas tree decoration!
