When planning and creating your dream wedding, it can sometimes seem challenging, even at the best of times. We’ve got Sharrow Bay‘s Events Manager and Wedding Coordinator, Ellie Elliot to share her secrets for organising the perfect wedding day…
Ellie on why she became a wedding coordinator…
Sharrow Bay is a very special venue set in the most breathtaking surroundings. I decided to take the role because it is unbelievably rewarding to watch a couple fall in love with the hotel and help guide them through their planning.
The nature of a wedding at Sharrow Bay…
Weddings at Sharrow Bay, tend to be intimate, with the people, the surroundings and the fine dining as the focus. Because our couples feel at home, they relax and want their guests to do the same. At one wedding the bride and groom placed slippers on the chairs so that all the ladies could relieve themselves of their high heels.
Because Weddings at Sharrow Bay are usually exclusive-use bookings, all the staff are completely focused on the wedding on the big day, which makes it a very special atmosphere.
How she nurtures the relationship between herself, the bride and groom…
From the beginning, the bride and groom have to not only be happy with the veneue but also with myself and the team who will be looking after them and their guests. It is important they know I’m passionate about the hotel and what I do, as are all the staff at Sharrow Bay.
We like to meet the bride and groom several times before the wedding so they get to know the team, and me, well – meaning they feel completely at home on their big day.
What goes on during a day in the life of Ellie Elliot?
Part of the appeal to a job like this was the variety and that no two weddings are alike. Once we have met the bride and groom and have a clear understanding of how they would like the day to work, we focus on coordinating with the different departments in the hotel and outside suppliers to make sure the day runs perfectly. Keeping the bride and groom regularly informed of where we are with the planning.
Ellie’s favourite kind of wedding…
Intimate and sophisticated, but with a touch of fun. I love a wedding where the bride and groom’s personalities can really shine through.
Advice to couples with a tight budget?
Even when on a tight budget, your wedding day should be an event to remember with you, your loved one and those all-important friends and family. Make it an experience, this doesn’t have to be expensive! Keep it simple, the little things seem important, but you and your guests are the most important things.
