Ami and Ian’s summer wedding was full of classical touches, with the super cool vintage police Mini, Jerry proving to be a hit with the guests!

The proposal

Ian proposed to Ami with a very special sweet treat. “We had visited the Tiptree Jam Factory, and then Ian surprised me with a stay at the lovely Maison Talbooth,” Ami recalls. “It was there that he proposed to me, with a Tiptree Jam jar on which he’d printed, ‘Will you marry me?’. We then had a wonderful meal at Le Talbooth restaurant, and went ring shopping the next day.”

The bride’s outfit

Ami chose an elegant Great Gatsby–inspired gown from Anoushka G at Grace and Lace in Chelmsford. “I loved the fact that it was so unusual, with its 1920s styling and delicate lace overlay with beautiful beading,” says Ami. “When I tried it on, it felt so special, and my mum and aunt were adamant that it was ‘the one’.” She added silver T-bar shoes from Rachel Simpson, a beaded hairband from Ivory & Co and a necklace borrowed from the mother of the bride.

The groom wore a traditional morning suit with grey pinstripe trousers and a black jacket, teamed with an ivory cravat and waistcoat, hired from Black Tie in Crowthorne. “Ian looked so handsome and I could tell he approved of my outfit too,” smiles Ami.

The bridesmaids

Ami was attended by her two close friends, Kerry and Nina. The maids wore pretty, dusky pink tea-length dresses with ivory lace overlay from Sophie Grey at BHS, with feathered hair accessories from Accessorize.

The ceremony

Ami and Ian tied the knot in a civil ceremony at Friern Manor Country House in the picturesque Dunton Village, Essex. “I genuinely couldn’t pick my favourite moment from the ceremony – it was all better than I’d ever imagined, and I loved every second,” smiles Ami.

The reception

Ami and Ian brought their vintage wedding theme to life with birdcage table centres featuring Avalanche roses, freesias, lisianthus and fountain grass. “We gave our guests pots of Tiptree jam as favours, in recognition of our engagement,” Ami explains. The couple also borrowed their friends’ vintage police Mini, Jerry, and provided costumes so their guests could dress up as cops and robbers. The beautiful three-tier cake was decorated with flowers and piped swags, with layers of fruit, lemon sponge and Madeira cake. It was served as part of the afternoon tea-style evening buffet.

The honeymoon

The newlyweds mini-mooned in Bury St Edmunds, where they relaxed with massages, champagne and gourmet meals, before travelling to Mexico for their main honeymoon.
