The proposal

Ruth and Ian first met when they were out with a group of friends. “We had so much fun and got on so well, it all went quickly from there!” says Ruth. After they became an item, Ian surprised his bride-to-be by popping the question on the way home after an evening at the cinema. “He also told me that we were leaving the next morning for a weekend in Poland! I was so happy and felt very spoilt!”

The bride’s outfit

Ruth found her Mori Lee dress in a bridal shop in Liverpool. “I saw the dress in Wedding Ideas and knew instantly that it was ‘the one’,” says Ruth. “I never dreamt that I would actually be able to have this dress.” She accessorised her look with earrings and a bracelet from Debenhams and ivory lace shoes from BHS.

Ian chose a mid-grey tails suit from Jeff Banks at Debenhams, with a duck egg blue tie. “He looked so handsome,” smiles Ruth. “I rarely see him in suits so it was lovely to see him dressed up.”

The bridesmaids

Ruth had her two best friends and sister as bridesmaids. They all wore teal, full-length Debut dresses, which Ruth found half price from Debenhams. They accessorised with Jon Richard pearl earrings and necklaces, as well as glittery silver shoes from Dorothy Perkins.

The ceremony

This couple chose a civil ceremony at Inglewood Manor. “Walking down the aisle was everything I had ever imagined,” remembers Ruth.

The details

Travel was the theme of choice for this big day. “We love to travel so it seemed perfect,” says Ruth. “Each table was named after a holiday we had been on, with the top table being called Bali as that was our honeymoon destination.”

They decorated their venue with map bunting, world globes, vintage cameras and old suitcases decorated with travel stickers and lined with travel-related fabric. They also had an amazing three- tier suitcase-stye wedding cake, made by Ian’s mum.
