Organising a hen party can be very tricky – not only do you have to do something that the bride-to-be will appreciate, you also have to consider the extended party, which can include an array of mums, aunts, younger sisters and even the odd long lost cousin.

So, if you’ve been assigned the daunting task of sorting out the shindig, here are some great alternatives to a couple of cocktails in town…

Have a paintball battle

Why not take your party paintballing? Although things can get pretty physical in terms of all the running and diving about; paintballing is perfectly safe. It’s a great day out that’s sure to leave you hurting from all the laughter and running around. Give the bridal party a chance to bond before the wedding, after all you’ll have to work and plot as a team!
Always choose a UKPSF and UKPBA accredited site, such as Mayhem Paintball, and if players don’t fancy the idea of getting smacked with a paintball, there’s always the option of laser tag – it’s no less competitive, there’s just no projectiles flying about.

Have a bake-off

If the hen feels more at home baking than on a battlefield, then a good, old-fashioned bake-off could be the order of the day.
Check any local baking schools to see what’s on offer, or take a trip to Delightful Tea in Essex, which offers ten hens the chance to cook up a storm in the kitchen – baking bread, cakes, and cupcakes, before enjoying afternoon tea with complimentary Prosecco, we are sure you’ll wisk together something Mary Berry would be proud of.

Have a healthy hen party

Downing tequila and dancing on tables until the wee small hours isn’t everyone’s idea of fun, so if you have a health-conscious Hen to consider, then a zen hen do could be the way to go.
More than your usual spa retreat, a zen hen party includes relaxing yoga classes – or more conditioning stretches if you’d prefer – as well as super-healthy brunch, afternoon tea, or dinner thrown in.

It’s still worth asking if you can still sneak in that bottle of fizz for afters, though…

Beach Party

If the weather’s good, you could escape to the coast and have a hen do on the beach.
The Little Beach Hut Company, based on Mersea Island in Essex – not far from the Dengie National Nature Reserve – offers cute little beach huts where you can sit back, relax and enjoy the sea views and fresh air.

A date with the dead?

So, the beach may be a bit too relaxing, baking cakes really isn’t your thing, and you just can’t bear to get covered in mud paintballing… Surviving a zombie apocalypse could be just the ticket! Not for the faint-hearted, you’ll be given a soft-pellet rifle (think of all those fond memories with your younger siblings’ NERF guns) and thrown into an eerie manor house or disused hospital that is crawling with the undead – it’s up to you and your team to work together and get out alive. There are zombie experiences up and down the UK, perfect for any budding brides of Frankenstein.

Themed dress up

So a hot pink sash and L plates may not be for you, but that doesn’t mean you should rule out fancy dress all together! Ditch the noisy club and flashing tiara for a house-party and a kimono. Immerse yourself in culture whilst keeping the party close to home. Learn all about Japanese rituals whilst sipping on champagne.

The Lara Croft hen

Not one for dressing up? No problem! If you’re dealing with a bride with a wild side, a tank driving hen do is enough to wow any adrenaline junky! Forget the rules of traffic, no one has right away when it comes to these roaring machines. We can’t think of a better way to calm those pre-wedding nerves than by taking command of a mammoth tank!

Roller queen

If you’re still doubting our alternative hen do ideas, we’ll definitely have you with this one! Do you and the girls love dancing around to 80’s classics like Girls Just Want To Have Fun? Then why not take it back to the 80’s with a roller disco? Let your hair down and get ready to throw some serious shapes! This really is a hen party to remember where the only thing brighter than the lights will be your smiles!

Criminal minds?

Finally, is the bride-to-be a fan of C.S.I or The Wire? Then a hen party escape game could be perfect for her analytical mind. Race against the clock to crack clues and collect evidence that could be used to free yourselves from the professor’s abandoned room! You can find escape rooms all across the country, so you are never far from a hen party thrill!
