You may have found the dress of your dreams but what about your bridal accessories? Your finishing touches have to be perfect – enhance and not overpower your gown. So follow these top tips from Gemma at luxury online accessory boutique All White Bridal and get it right first time…
Decide on the dress first
This is the first move to make and maybe sounds obvious – but believe me, there are brides out there who choose their accessories first and then have to match the dress to the accessories. My first top tip is to find your perfect gown first! And once you have found it, keep a picture of it with you so you can always refer back to it when you start to accessorize.
Find your style
Are you opting for a natural look, princess look, boho style or going vintage? You’ll want your accessories to match the whole look and complement your gown so the end result looks elegant and coordinated.
Choose a hairstyle
Make an appointment with your hairstylist and decide on how you are going to wear your hair. Your hairdresser should be able to advise you on the type of hair accessories that will complement your look – flowers, tiaras, hair pins – the choice is endless.
Do your research
Start looking through wedding magazines and wedding blogs to give you a real idea of the accessories that are out there. Also take a look at some real weddings – it’s important to see how hair accessories and the like look on real women, and not just models.
Choose hair accessories first
You are now ready to enter the dazzling world of accessories! Depending on the style you have chosen and the theme of your day, I would always try to work some Swarovski crystals into your accessories – they will shine and sparkle as you walk down the aisle.
To veil or not to veil?
Do you go for a beautiful cathedral-length veil or keep it simple with a delicate elbow-length design? Will the lace edging match your dress? A big point to make when choosing your veil is the material needs to be good, otherwise it can make the veil look cheap and it will not hang correctly. Stick to ‘Italian tulle’ this is the softest material and the veils hang exquisitely complementing your dress.
Find your jewellery
Choosing your jewellery depends on the style of dress you have chosen. If you have gone for a sweetheart neckline, then a beautiful necklace and earring set will complement your gown. However if your dress has sleeves, a necklace may look too much and sometimes less is more. Earrings are a must-have accessory, if you have a tiara and a veil I would choose some delicate studs. Alternatively, if your hair accessories are simple, then look for some longer statement earrings.
Accessorize your bridesmaids
You’ll want your bridesmaids to complement your wedding look, not take the attention away from you! My secret is to keep your bridesmaids’ accessories as simple and delicate as possible. Look for delicate flower hairpieces and small stud earrings but make sure they are all the same as this will look better in your photographs.
