If you’ve spent all your time planning the wedding of your dreams, your honeymoon might have become a bit of an afterthought! Here are eight mistakes to avoid when it comes to organising your first holiday as husband and wife…
Mistake 1 – Booking flights in the wrong name
Yes, you’re excited at the fact you are now Mr and Mrs, but you might have to leave out booking in your new name – getting a new passport takes time and you’re better off avoiding the risk of confusion.
Mistake 2 – Catching an early flight
Consider your flight timings properly. You might want to get away as soon as possible but we don’t think it’s sensible to book an early morning flight the day after your wedding. You want time to catch up with friends and family about the day before!
Mistake 3 – Not checking the weather
Do your research to make sure you’re going at the right time for your location. You don’t want to turn up in your shorts and sunnies to torrential rain in the monsoon season.
Mistake 4 – Missing out on local food
Opting for all-inclusive always seems like a good deal – it’s easy, it’s relaxing and you can really get your money’s worth. But, if you’re choosing a honeymoon destination known for yummy food, why miss out on that? Don’t forget to try the local delicacies.
Mistake 5 – Packing at the last minute
Getting caught up with your wedding day plans and the actual big day might mean you leave your packing until the last minute. Do not pack with hangover! The wine-head cannot cope with proper organisation, and you don’t want to forget your bikinis. Not sure what you need to pack? Check this out.
Mistake 6 – Missing out on upgrades
Make sure you tell every member of the hotel staff that it’s your honeymoon, you will reap the benefits. Don’t miss out on special treatment or even a few extra chocolates on your bed just because you don’t want to go on about it.
Mistake 7 – Forgetting the sun cream
You may want to come back looking beautifully bronzed after your honeymoon, but please do not underestimate the pain of sunburn. “It will go brown eventually, yadah yadah yadah” – no, you’ll end up tomato red and not enjoying your honeymoon.
