Wedding signs are the new big day must-have. They allow you to add a fun, personal touch to your day whilst directing guests stylishly around your venue. Here, the team from The Wedding of my Dreams reveal seven of their favourite designs for 2014…
There are many different types of signs that you could include in your wedding décor – cute love signs and poems, purely directional signs or even pretty chair backs or humorous signs, it’s totally up to you and your style.
DIY-loving crafty couples are even making their own signs, painting their own messages onto wood or printing them out on to card and displaying them in frames at their wedding. To get you started, here are seven of our favourite signs and sayings – which one would suit your day?
Signs for the ceremony
For a relaxed or informal wedding ceremony, it is becoming more and more popular to encourage your guests not to sit on a dedicated side of the aisle, but rather to sit wherever they choose. Our ‘Choose a seat not a side, we’re all family once the knot is tied’ print makes a lovely sign at the entrance to your wedding ceremony. This will be available from March 2014.
Directing your guests
Depending on the size and layout of your venue, it might be worth hanging directional signs so guests can find their way around. You can use signs to show guests where to park, where the ceremony is being held, where the bar is, which way to the dance floor and so on.
Our favourite sign pointing to the ceremony is our ‘This way to the I dos’, it adds an element of fun as soon as guests arrive, as well as pointing them in the right direction. For more creative and personalised signs we love these blackboard arrows, you can hang these around your venue and write on them yourselves.
Signs for chair backs
Make the newlyweds’ chairs stand out at the reception by adding a fabulous finishing touch. These Mr and Mrs signs work perfectly for this, hang one over each chair back and that’s it! Take the signs home with you after the wedding and display them as lovely reminders of your wedding day.
Chalkboard signs
Using chalkboard signs at your wedding lets you put that personal touch into your wedding décor. Get creative with your ideas and use the chalkboard to explain what you want guests to do.
For example if you are having a non-traditional guest book, or escort cards instead of a table plan, it sometimes helps if you let your guests know what you want them to do. Create your own bar menus and have signature cocktails available, let your guests know by displaying the menu on a chalkboard… the list is endless.
Props for photos
Signs can make wonderful props for your wedding photographs – chat with your photographer about this, as they may have some fun ideas. Use a chalkboard sign or chalk boards in the shape of speech bubbles and pose for funny photos perhaps?
Think about photos you could use after your wedding, too – we love the idea of holding our Happily Ever After Sign on your wedding day and using the photo on your thank you cards.
Don’t forget the outdoors
Our Just Married lanterns are one of our most popular wedding signs, although they are not signs as such – you can lay the individual lanterns out in a row and they spell out JUST MARRIED.
These look great set out at the front of your reception venue as your guests arrive after the ceremony and look even better once the light draws in and the wedding party continues into the evening. They also work perfectly for a destination wedding. Easy to pack, they don’t weigh a thing!
