THAILAND

The UK winter is high season in Thailand, with their dry season starting in November. However, despite it being high season, getting married in Thailand at this time can still be a good value option for couples, as overall costs are not necessarily as high as in other countries.

A tropical wedding on a beach is a classic Thailand wedding choice, but there are plenty of other ceremony types, too. A Buddhist ceremony is one option, or couples could choose a five star resort on a pretty island, or even a wedding at sea, on a beautifully decorated yacht.

ISTANBUL, TURKEY

It’s closer to home, but still an exotic and unusual city in which to marry during the colder months. With the weather chillier mid-winter, October and March are warmer, with a much more bearable temperature than in summer. The palace venues dotted around Istanbul all offer amazing ballrooms and reception suites, and the intricate décor of Turkish architecture really does lend itself to the romance of a wedding.

For couples looking for a romantic winter palace wedding with a hint of the exotic, try a snowy winter wedding at Adile Sultan Palace.

FRANCE

A chateau wedding in winter can save you money, and be even more romantic than in summer, with roaring fires, cosy four poster beds, candlelight and usual healthy flow of wine. France in winter is similar to the UK in temperature, but a chilly day with a chateau’s turrets appearing out of the mist, is a truly romantic sight.

The less well-known Languedoc Roussillon region in the south west of France is dotted with many gorgeous chateaux, most of which offering weddings all year round. Best of all, the weather tends to be sunny here year-round (with over 300 days of sun), and it’s not that far from home, if couples want to have friends and family there for the special day.

The splendour of Budapest in winter makes this city a fabulous wedding choice for this season, especially when snow gently covers the landscape. The city centre has a plethora of hotels and venues available for weddings, some with splendid ballrooms for a truly romantic first dance.

Discounts are often available in Budapest over the winter season, and, if couples marry in December they can have wedding photos taken at the famous Christmas markets.

INDIA

UK winter is a prime time to visit to India, where the weather becomes bearable between October and April. During these months the temperature stays in the high 20s and 30s with guaranteed sunshine for the most part. The accommodation is slightly cheaper during this time of year, too, however wedding costs tend to remain the same year round.

There are many beautiful venues in India – namely in Rajasthan, Goa and Kerala, as the weather in all three places is perfect. In Rajasthan the temperatures are high in the daytime, cooling down a little in the evening in the desert. There are beautiful boutique palaces also located in Jaipur, Jaisalmer and Udaipur, while Goa has many majestic hotels and villas on offer, too.

The South is generally more suitable for destination weddings, as the beaches are quieter and less touristy than the North. Kerala has a number of different options, from beach and lakeside weddings, to houseboat weddings, depending on your preference.
