We love a good speech here at Wedding Ideas – when they’re done right, they can be a true highlight of the reception. If you’re looking for some creative, unique and hilarious wedding speeches, then take a look at some of our favourites below…

Groom’s Speech

We’ve had a special place in our hearts for singing grooms ever since we watched Tom Fletcher of McFly’s amazing tribute to his new wife Gi, and this groom’s speech is just as inventive! Having said that, we’re not sure the mother of the groom appreciated the fart jokes…

If your groom is looking for more conventional speech advice, then point him in the direction of our top tips for the groom’s speech.

Father of the Bride’s Speech

Now this is one devoted dad! We love this amazing poem from father of the bride Tom – it’s not easy to write a speech that’s funny, touching AND rhymes! We recommend you put the captions on in this video to truly appreciate the wonderful words.

Our favourite moments are Tom’s beautiful dedication to his wife and the mother of the bride around 5 minutes in, and his general advice for newlywed couples at 9 minutes 15 seconds:

Live every day with your love as a guide; always give more than your groom or your bride;
Find in each other the funniest things, and share with each other when your heart sings.
And no truer words have ever been penned, than the crux of your love is just being best friends.
From this day on you are never alone; wherever you are, it is your spouse that’s your home.
And when time has passed and the two of you age, and your lives are about to turn the last page,
You’ll see not the wrinkles, nor the old, nor the grey – instead you’ll see yourselves as you are on this day.
I hope that you’ll give life to my early reprise, and that you’ll say to each other from tired old eyes:
“There’s no Romeo nor Juliet that ever was, is or will be, that could ever compare to what is you and me.
I said it before and I’ll say it times ten: given the chance, I would do it again.
If some wondrous force took us back way back when, and the lives that we’ve lived started over again,
I’d again find you and court you as husband or wife; you’re the fabric, the purpose and my reason for life.”

Best Man’s Speech

There’s nothing better than a funny best man’s speech, and this is one of our favourites. The typical one-liners about marriage have everyone cracking up, and we love that the best man had a ginormous cardboard cut-out of the groom in costume made up – we’re sure that it made for a great photo opportunity later!

Maid of Honour Speech

Here at Wedding Ideas, we don’t think that speeches should just be made by the men – this amazing rap by the bride’s sister at this wedding just goes to show that us girls can rock a speech! We love that she still managed to get a bit of good life advice in at the end, and everyone clearly loved it – a truly brilliant speech.

Bonus: Bride’s “speech”

Not technically a speech, but we had to include this! After her fiancé Phil said that she was no good at showing him affection, bride Chloe surprised him with this special video at their wedding to show him just how much she loved him. Top marks for effort, Chloe!

  1. We had no best man and only our 3 year old daughter as a bridesmaid…..my dad didnt want to give a speech and neither did my hubby………..so it got to a point after the meals where i just thought someone ought to say SOMETHING!!…….so i stood up and thanked all for coming, thanked a friends little girl for sharing her day with us whos birthday it was, thanked our parents and thanked the witnesses! it was quite fitting for our simple Christmassy wedding 2 years ago! x

  2. I’m not sure how I feel about it. I’d like to but I always remember my old gran scoffing & saying the bride doesn’t make a speech its the males job. I’d kind of like to though. I was thinking maybe I could stand up there with hubby & just add anything he forgets or write it with him ??? Or just do my own speech. I don’t know!

  3. My maid of honour made the best speech EVER!!!! She took 4 of my favourite Disney songs, reworded them to be about our drunken adventures and my new hubby, then sang along to the them. It really was amazing, everyone still talks about it now. I’m so glad we had a videographer to capture it! Thanks again Dannii Mallinson you’re the best xxxx
