Are you jetting off to the Caribbean for your first holiday as husband and wife? Antigua is a colourful and exciting choice, and we’ve found four fabulous honeymoon locations you’ll love. Which is your favourite?
Galley Bay Resort & Spa (££££)
Looking for pure luxury? You’ll find it at Galley Bay! Based on the North West side of Antigua, the Galley Bay resort makes for a perfect island hideaway for everyone!
Honeymooners looking to get away from it all will love its seclude beach and private luxury accommodation, while couples who want to do a little tax-free shopping are only three miles away from the city of St John’s. Foodies will be spoilt for choice, with four bars and three seafront restaurants to choose from, all serving beautiful gourmet food and a choice of cocktails and international drinks. The staff are incredibly friendly and more than willing to accommodate your every need.
As well as sunbathing and relaxing in the stunning pool, there are loads of activities to fill your days – the resort boasts a fitness centre, tennis courts, table tennis, watersports and its very own spa with indoor and outdoor treatment cabanas. For a good day out, we recommend the full day boat trip around the entire island, or stingray city, where you get a chance to swim with the marine life.
Why not stay in one of the resort’s cute Gauguin Cottages, which benefits from twin palm-thatched ‘rondovals’? One is a bedroom complete with a super-soft king-size bed, and the other a bathroom with dressing area, both linked by a private terrace with your very own splash pool. Kuoni offers seven nights on all-inclusive at Galley Bay, Antigua in a Gauguin Cottage, including return economy flights with Virgin Atlantic from London Gatwick and transfers to the resort.
Sandals Grande (£££)
The Sandals Grande Antigua has won awards year after year, including World’s Most Romantic Resort and World’s Leading Honeymoon Resort, making it a fantastic option for your Antiguan honeymoon.
Set on the idyllic Dickenson Bay, this stylish seaside resort aims to blend Caribbean and Mediterranean cultures together for an exotic getaway experience – just take a look at their stunning seaside villas, complete with private pools and views of the manicured gardens. If you’re feeling truly decadent, you can stay in one of Sandals’ Love Nest luxury suites, designed exclusively for couples on their honeymoon. You’ll get Champagne in your room, breakfast in bed and the services of your own personal butler!
If you ever want to leave your love nest for a bite to eat, you can dine at one of the resort’s eleven world-class restaurants, all offering a huge range of international cuisines. You can also arrange a private candlelit dinner for you and your new husband, with tropical flowers on your table and your own private waiter.
Don’t forget to take in the plethora of activities that come with Sandals’ all-inclusive package, from watersports like scuba diving and sailing to land-based fun like tennis and golf! If you have time to fit in more, we recommend taking a Caribbean island adventure tour, before relaxing at the resort’s signature Red Lane® Spa.
St James’s Club (£££)
Set in a stunning 100 acres of secluded grounds, St James’s Club is perfectly located on the South-Eastern tip of the island, not far from Shirley Heights with its stunning views and kicking Sunday night party.
This gorgeous resort is perfect for water-lovers, as it boasts not one, but two amazing beaches. The beautiful Coco Beach with its white sand and warm breeze is full of tropical fish for the avid snorkeler to seek out, while Mamora Bay is calmer and great for watersports. No matter which one you choose to relax on, or whether you prefer to chill by one of the hotel’s six distinctive swimming pools, you can order a delicious rum punch from the St James’s mobile drinks cart to sip on your lounger.
There’s no end to the romantic options that you and your new husband can choose from. You can take an idyllic sunset cruise, arrange a sensuous couples massage, have a private candlelit dinner in your room or take a Champagne breakfast in bed. We recommend the incredible lobster dinner at Piccolo Mondo, one of the resort’s four restaurants. There’s a $35 supplement, but it’s worth it!
Jolly Beach (££)
Jolly Beach is a great option if you want to get away to a tropical paradise but don’t have an unlimited budget – the tropical gardens, fine white beach and picturesque views are as good as any five-star resort!
Jolly Beach is also family-friendly, which is perfect for couples who want to bring the kids along on the holiday of a lifetime. The resort has a lively atmosphere and plenty to do, including water sports, pool volleyball and beach games. Kids and teens have their very own clubs, promising a fun-packed itinerary of activities, whilst parents can head to the adults-only pool or spa for some much deserved relaxation and pampering.
If you’d prefer to a little more privacy, then you can always stay in one of the beautiful beachfront cottages, which are situated directly by the sea and come with a private verandah for you to relax on. If you fancy an evening of wining and dining, you can try out the delicious meals in one of the resort’s five luxurious restaurants and bars, and then by entertained by live music, karaoke and casino games into the early hours.
