Mad Men wedding themes are hot for 2013, after the recent success of the hit TV series, so if you’re planning a 1960s style celebration, this fabulous vintage photo shoot will be full of ideas for you!

Captured by Synergy Styling and Photography, the Docklands shoot was full of fun 1960s details. “We were thrilled to work with Lisa Keating who is known for creating gorgeous corsetry and is now working on a new range of bridal gowns which reflect the eras,” says Venetia, from Synergy Styling. “The dress we used was inspired by Lisa’s mother’s wedding dress – straight from the 1960s.”

When it comes to the bride’s outfit, creating a 1960s wedding style is easy. Start with a knee-length wedding dress in a shiny satin, add elegant lace sleeves (ideally ones that finish at the elbow), cute bow details (could be a brooch or a sash) and finish with an ivory hairband made of ribbon to complete the look.

The bridal hairstyle du jour was the backcombed beehive and eye make-up was on the heavy side with thick lashes giving them even more definition. Think Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Add a simple string of pearls and you’re good to go!

To give your groomswear a 1960s look, remember sharp suits and shiny shoes are a must! Channel that Don Draper look in a stylish fitted three-piece suit in black or grey. Acessories-wise, think about engraved hip flasks and thin ties and cool cufflinks. But the key to this whole look is the perfectly styled hair. Use Brylcreem and a comb to create a sharp, side-parted look, just like our gorgeous model below…

As stylist for the shoot, Venetia got her inspiration from visiting an exhibition of Norman Parkinson’s photography from the 1960s. “I was drawn in particular to an image of a group of women wearing beautiful gowns with the backdrop of the Docklands which was featured in Vogue.”
