Are you a hands-on bride? Are you creating and crafting a lot of things for your wedding day? Then you’ll love these fabulous DIY wedding favours we spotted in our real-life weddings…
If you’re having a winter wedding, why not decorate a plain Christmas tree bauble with your initials and wedding date? Better still, why not set up a children’s area where they can decorate their own baubles under supervision?
Scratch and win
Buy scratchcards for each guest and attach them to their place names. Or you can go one step further and make your own bingo cards and play a game after the speeches. Even if nobody wins, it’ll be a talking point and get people laughing and joking.
If you’re planning an autumn wedding, why not make your guests some toffee apples? You can wrap them in cellophane and decorate them with a pretty ribbon to match your colour scheme.
Fill a small jam jar with sweets and attach a personalised luggage tag to decorate. Or forget the favours and have a sweetie table instead. You can buy retro sweets in bulk and serve in glass jars with stripy bags for an instant pick ‘n’ mix.
Bake up a storm
Get handy in the kitchen and bake your guests some super shortbread, fudge or cookies as favours and present them in pretty paper gift boxes. These can be made up well in advance of your big day and kept in airtight containers until needed.
Make small scented candles for each guest and set them in cute vintage teacups. Mix and match teacups and pick them up at local antique fairs or car boot sales.
Pebble place names
Collect flat pebbles from the beach and paint with your names and the date of your wedding. This can double up as a name place and as a fab paperweight after the wedding day.
If you’re having a spring wedding, plant a bulb in a small terracotta pot. ‘Force’ the plant in a dark room and then take out a few days before the wedding, just in time to flower. You can personalise the terracotta pot with a marker pen, paint or a luggage label with the guest’s name.
Rosy red favours
For an inexpensive but effective wedding favour, pick some juicy green or rosy red apples from a local orchard, then attach a vintage-style luggage label to each stalk.
Watch love grow
If your wedding flowers include sunflowers, sweet peas or ranunculus, why not make a customised seed packet for your guests? Mark them with their name and your wedding details and they can ‘watch love grow’.
Make some homemade jam or chutney, put in little glass jam jars that have been sterilised and decorate with a personalised label on each place setting.
It’s a cracker!
If you’re having a Christmas wedding then make your own personalised Christmas crackers and make up your very own wedding-themed Christmas cracker joke! The cheesier the better!
