On the first day of Christmas my true love gave to me… Some amazing wedding planning tips from Wedding Ideas magazine!

12 Drummers Drumming

Why not make your pageboy the little drummer boy? He can herald your arrival to the ceremony and then bang away to his heart’s content at the evening disco. Just make sure you take his drumsticks away during the speeches!

11 Pipers Piping

Pipers aren’t just for Scottish brides! Planning a medieval or regal-inspired big day? Imagine pipers accompanying you into the church! How spectacular. Don’t have the budget for pipers? We love string quartets, pianists, solo singers and flute players? Have you got a talented family member who can play a musical instrument? Make the day personal and save money by asking them to entertain guests throughout the day.

10 Lords-a-Leaping

Grooms leaping for joy is a classic wedding picture. If there are any particular photos you want during the day, make sure your wedding photographer knows about them by giving them a detailed shot list.

9 Ladies Dancing

You may not be a single lady any more but you can still strut your stuff to Beyoncé in a choreographed dance with your best girls! This is such a fun hen night activity – sign up for dance lessons and learn a routine from one of your favourite songs or films.

8 Maids-a-Milking

Okay, so they might not be milking but your bridesmaids need to be kept busy, busy, busy on the big day. Give them dedicated jobs like taking care of children, handing round the guestbook and making sure your lipstick is always touched up.

7 Swans-a-Swimming

Glide down the aisle like an elegant swan and look amazing in your photographs with these three top tips from top bridal coach Michele Paradise…

  1. Stand up straight by holding a broom handle between your shoulder blades and pulling in your core (tummy) muscles. You’ll look slimmer and more confident in less than five minutes by doing this.
  2. When you’re being photographed, stand in a model ‘T-shape’, with one foot in front of the other, turning your hips slightly to one side. Don’t stand dead straight ahead like a soldier.
  3. Any tension you feel is likely to show in your hands, which will be on display all day. Shake them out before the photographs to relax.

6 Geese-a-Laying

The Vintage Swallow has a fabulous goosey-themed favour idea. Like fortune cookies with a difference your message is cleverly enclosed in a painted eggshell that’s revealed once cracked open. Packaged in a crack-me gift box, and tucked into a shredded paper nest, they are the perfect gift idea for your little flowergirls.

5 Gold Rings

Order your rings in plenty of time. You may not be able to find the perfect rings off the shelf and you don’t want to rush and buy the wrong thing. These wedding rings will be with you forever so make sure you choose a style that matches your personality. Want something different to traditional gold and silver? How about a titanium wedding ring?

4 Colly Birds

Birds are one of the hottest wedding themes for 2015. Work feathers into your head piece, your gown, your buttonholes and more. Table centres can be created from birdcages decorated with vintage jewellery, diamonds and pearls.

It’s easy to give a vintage wedding theme a French twist! Think pale pastel reds, whites and blues, macarons and Eiffel Tower-inspired stationery.

2 Turtle Doves

What are you planning as the wow factor finish to your big day? A dove release is a romantic way to bring the celebrations to a close. Don’t like birds? Try balloons, fireworks or sparklers if the budget is tight!

1 And a Partridge in a Pear Tree… or rather a wish tree!

Wish trees are a cute reception idea where guests can leave their personalised good luck messages. Why not prepare some tags with each guests photo so they can find their tag and leave their message. Too old fashioned for you? Hire a video booth instead and ask guests to leave their messages that you can then watch, again and again!
