Does the thought of cramming yourself into a corset fill you with dread? These informal wedding dresses are lightweight and relaxed but still special enough for the big day.

If your idea of the perfect wedding dress doesn’t include a princess-style dress and a waist-sculpting bodice, fear not. There are still plenty of pretty wedding dresses that will suit a more laid-back style.

The relaxed look is often associated with unstructured silhouettes, so look for floaty fabrics like chiffon and silk. A soft layered look can be just as romantic as a traditional ballgown – and much more comfortable on a hot summer’s day.

Shorter styles can also be considered as informal, and we’ve included some in our selection. Don’t rule them out, especially if you’re thinking of a 50s-inspired wedding theme.

Want a traditional gown with a laid-back twist? We love the Diane Harbridge dress below, which mixes a traditional bridal silhouette with practical pockets.

Informal wedding dresses by their very nature will not have as much internal structuring so these dresses usually suit tall brides or willowy frames with toned arms.
