Stacey & Jack
For one of Jack’s birthdays I had planned a surprise day out. He asked me if what he was wearing (shorts) would be okay and I said yes, completely forgetting that I had booked us into the Ice Bar in London!
After dating for five years, Jack got down on one knee on Christmas day. He woke me up in the morning with the ring in his hand and asked me to marry him. He then gave me a stocking filled with wedding magazines and a fiancé Christmas card. He really did make Christmas extra special.
I thought I’d found my dream dress but it was discontinued which left me distraught.
I needn’t have been, though, because when I visited Leonie Claire Bridal Boutique in Brighton the sixth and final dress I tried was the one! It was by Justin Alexander, a designer I’ve loved since I first saw their dresses, and featured lots of ivory lace with delicate beading. The lace straps, low-cut back and fishtail shape were really beautiful.
My belt was my ‘something borrowed’ from my sister-in-law and my shoes were my ‘something blue’. I bought a vintage comb that I had seen in Wedding Ideas from Sweetheart Vintage and also had a Kelly Spence headdress sourced from the boutique.
Jack wore a three-piece suit in a slightly lighter shade of grey than his groomsmen, he purchased it in River Island. I got goose bumps he looked so handsome!
“I had ten bridesmaids! They wore strapless, chiffon, floor-length dresses from Alice & You and Missguided in a range of pastel shades.”
I gifted them matching earrings and necklaces as a surprise, too.
For both of us the magic moment was seeing each other for the first time, sharing a smile and feeling so excited! Cheeses, pates and chutneys were our choice of starter, followed by a hog roast and BBQ for the main and a sensational sweet table for dessert – it included cakes, cheesecakes, Krispy Kreme donuts, French fancies and pies! In the evening we served chips and burgers.
We had five speeches. My dad and Jack were both really nervous but did really well and had people in tears. The best men gave one sweet and one funny speech before my good friend said a few words that had me sobbing!
“Our theme centred on pastels and vintage elements with fun twists thrown in, too!”
Wedding Ideas was my bible for our wedding planning for everything from choosing a theme to selecting stationery and accessories!
I made all the pompoms and giant clusters hanging from the main beams and sourced lots of decorations in charity shops. The table plan was an old mirror that I turned into a chalkboard, the place names were hearts I made and we added fairylights, mismatched hanging hearts and hay bale seating outside. The table centres were all different, using birdcages, watering cans, milk jugs and jars filled with flowers. The top table had a Mr & Mrs spray and decanters, vases and jars packed with blooms.
My friend’s mum supplied all the flowers. She was amazing! She knew exactly what I wanted and I felt so comfortable entrusting the arrangements to her.
We had two cakes from Choccywoccydoodah – one was chocolate with praline filling and milk chocolate with a white chocolate drip, while the other was lemon with a Champagne truffle filling and a white chocolate coating with a milk chocolate drip.
Guests each received a scratch card in an envelope saying ‘for richer or for poorer’ with a penny taped to the front.
Our first dance was to Clean Bandit featuring Jess Glynne’s ‘Real Love’. It’s so us!
“Everyone cheered and clapped along which felt fantastic but the song still gave us that all-important private moment when we forgot everyone else was there.”
Straight after the wedding we jetted off to Gran Canaria for a week where we enjoyed a boat trip, soaked up the sun and enjoyed the start of our married life together! For our main honeymoon we are planning a trip to Mexico next year.
