Bridal trends at the British Bridal Exhibition

Wedding dresses, top designers, brilliant bridal jewellery and more… it must be Harrogate time! Twice a year the cream of the UK’s bridal industry takes over this small north Yorkshire town and the wedding dress trends for the coming year are made and broken. Hundreds of UK wedding dress shops come to choose their collections and this year they’ve had a harder job than ever! Our travels around the halls and hotels were dominated by one thing – lace. Seen on sleeves, boleros and as appliqués on skirts, it’s definitely a must have for 2012/13.

Brides who want bling should keep some budget back for Benjamin Adams’ beautiful Swarovski covered wedding shoes.  The clever wedge heel will make you feel secure and give you a princess look all at the same time. A new designer in the UK, Intuzuri, has been wowing the crowds – beautiful detailing and figure-flattering shapes, a winning combination. Enzoani also have some great plans for 2012/13 including new labels and even a shoe range! Gorgeous with Curves plus size brides also have a treat coming their way, too… Buy any Gorgeous with Curves gown and receive a free FYEO photo shoot! Confidence boosting and so much fun, we would recommend it to everyone!

Sunday’s highlight was the Bridal Industry Suppliers Disco – or the BISCO as it’s now known – and our fabulous entertainer Robbie Williams. Well, Tony Lewis as Robbie but you’d never know! Our art director Andy Allen was even dragged onto the stage to become one fifth of the UK’s best boy band… I wonder if you can guess which role he played!

Monday morning was all about filming! Pippa and I set off around the show captured our favourite designers and sneaking a peek at the latest trends. First up was Alfred Angelo where they talked us through their new collection – Modern Vintage. All the gowns were being displayed with Rachel Simpson shoes, the perfect vintage finishing touch – genius! Next up it was on to Enzoani to talk about how their brilliant belt details can change your look from day to night and finally Pippa chatted to the lovely guys at Masterhand on how to make your groom stand out from the crowd.

As night fell we glammed ourselves to the max ready for the Bridal Buyer Awards – the biggest industry-voted-for awards of the year. We were rubbing shoulders with the cream of the wedding industry and Pippa even wore her beautiful Dakota gown from Enzoani. B2bs can buy it in ivory, too! All our favourites scooped awards including Mori Lee for Best Plus-size Collection, Justin Alexander for Best Dress of the Year and Ian Stuart for Best Occasion wear for his Mother of the Bride outfits. After bopping the night away with the girls from Wedding Belles of Otley, Ava Rose Hamilton, our friends at Hitched and the lovely Alex from FYEO portraits we hit the road south, back to Herd HQ. Another busy week for the Wedding Ideas crew! Got to go, the latest issue should be back from the printers any minute!
