Thinking about the wedding entertainment? We’ve got 10 fab questions for you to ask your acts!
Depending on space and budget, you may want a full live band with instrumentalists, or a solo performer with a backing track.
What genres of music can you play live?
Some bands and DJs specialise in a particular style; others have a wider repertoire, which may be good for spreading throughout the evening.
Can we see you performing live?
Try to see your band or DJ at a gig. If that’s not possible, ask to see a video or at least listen to a CD.
Can we give you a must-play list?
A good band or DJ will be open to suggestions about tracks you do (and definitely don’t!) want to hear.
How much time do you need to set up?
Allow your entertainer time to set up, especially if you’re using the same room beforehand – you don’t want your speeches interrupted by sound checks.
What equipment do you supply?
Check whether you (or your venue) need to provide kit such as microphones, amps and disco lighting.
How many breaks will you need?
Bands typically take a break between sets, so consider how you’ll fill this interval. One idea is to set up an iPod with your favourite tracks. Or perhaps a talented guest would like to entertain the crowd?
Will you learn a particular piece of music for our first dance?
If you’re set on a specific song, ask if it’s in your entertainer’s repertoire, or make sure your DJ has the correct version of the track.
Will you accept requests through the night?
Someone who’ll play requests is more likely to get your guests on the dance floor. You could even ask guests to include their choices on their RSVP cards
Can you also act as an MC?
By announcing your first dance and other important milestones throughout the evening, your entertainer can keep everything flowing smoothly.
