Real Wedding - Lynne and Steven
WHERE: St Andrews Cathedral, Glasgow followed by House for an Art Lover
WHEN: 2nd February 2007
PHOTOGRAPHER: Olivier Bonneau
How they met
A mutual friend introduced the pair at a New Year’s Eve party.
Proposal
Pewley Downs in Guildford holds lots of memories for the couple, so it was the perfect place for Steven to pop the question.
She wore
Lynne bought her strapless gown from Expressions Bridal wear in Hitchin. Designed by Sincerity, the soft satin dress featured pretty floral embroidery along the v-shaped bodice.
Jewellery
Lynne wore a beautiful pair of diamond stud earrings that were a present from Steven on the morning of the wedding. She also wore a simple pearl bracelet. Her gorgeous shoes were from Gabriella and Lucido.
He wore
Steven hired his kilt from Debenhams. All the kilts were grey argyle but to set him apart from his groomsmen he wore a plaid secured in place with a celtic brooch.
Bridesmaid
The strapless tea-length dresses from Dessy in a lovely shade of chocolate brown blended perfectly with the flower girls who wore ivory ‘Tiger lily’ dresses from Debenhams.
Flowers
The flowers were cream tulips and roses with skimmia and diamante jewels. The bridesmaids carried a smaller version of the bride’s bouquet and the flower girls held wands made from tulips and roses.
Transport
Arriving in style, the couple hired a Lexus saloon and a 16-seater Mercedes mini-bus for the bridal party. So that the guests didn’t feel left out, they hired coaches to take them from the church to the reception venue and then at the end of the evening, back to their hotels.
Cake
The three-tiered chocolate cake was covered in milk chocolate cigarillos and milk chocolate maltesers topped with a sparkly tiara.
Favours
Lynne and Steven wanted to make a final toast after the wedding breakfast, so between them they visited each table after dessert and poured their guests either a whiskey, Baileys or port - this went down very well and served as the favours.
Theme
The theme of the wedding was inspired by the reception venue, House for an Art Lover, a house designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh. The house is so beautiful and the design so unique that they carried this through wherever possible.
Bride’s tip
Put together a list of everything that is being spent and on what, it really does help. It’s worth thinking about where you want your money to go - is it on a posh wedding car or on the perfect wedding rings? Also ask friends or family to help out - my aunt made our cake and a friend helped with the invitations, it may save you some money and it’s worth it to make people feel involved.
Groom’s tip
Make sure you take a few minutes over the course of your wedding day to reflect on it as it is happening - there is so much to take in and this will help you remember every second of it! We did this and those moments were really special to us.
Honeymoon
The happy couple spent three weeks visiting South Africa and Mauritius. They started off in Cape Town for three nights and then took an hour flight from there to do safari for three days at a private game reserve. They hired a car and spent a week traveling back to Cape Town along the 'Garden Route' ending their tour in the Winelands. The romantic break ended with a relaxing five nights in Mauritius.
