Ideas on how to plan a great wedding with these fab 10 top tips
Become a pro on how to plan a wedding with our guide of what to book, and ideas on when to do it.
Wedding insurance
A quick and easy purchase to begin with when starting to plan your wedding but one that so many couples forget. Invest in a basic package that covers your biggest expenses like your venue and dress, and have piece of mind right from the start.
Your venue
Make a shortlist of ideas and venues and try to confirm your perfect place at least 12 months before the big day.
The ceremony
If you’re not getting married in a church, you need to book a registrar. Remember, registrars can look after many different places, so it’s advisable to meet your venue and registrar around the same time.
Your photographer
Your pictures will be your lasting memory of the day so make booking a good photographer a top priority. Visit wedding fayres and find examples of photography you like in our real-life wedding section. A pre-wedding venue visit is also something to work into your photographer’s schedule.
The dress
Every bride’s favourite buy! Book an appointment at a couple of boutiques and take someone you trust to be honest. And the golden rule – when you’ve found your wedding dress, stop looking!
The flowers
Gather pictures of bouquets and arrangements you like, and take this with you to your first meeting. Aim to meet with your florist six to eight months before the big day.
The entertainment
Whatever entertainment you want, start looking now! The best bands and DJs will be booked up early so don’t leave this too late. Also, now is the time to check your venue’s rules with noise limits and closing times.
Bridesmaid dresses
If you’re ordering dresses for your girls, take note and check delivery times – some companies will take longer than others.
The details
Invitations, favours and stationery need plenty of thought. Your invitations should go out at least 12 weeks prior to the wedding. Give your supplier six to eight months to create these for you.
The honeymoon
Used the majority of the budget on the wedding? Ask guests for honeymoon donations instead of gifts and you can still have the holiday of a lifetime!
