A to Z of Romance

Make the honeymoon period last forever with our secrets for injecting romance into every day of your marriage…

  1. Arrange a rendezvous - Make a weekly date with your h2b to meet up after work away from home. It'll bring back memories of the butterflies and anticipation you felt on those all important first dates, and add some romance to your working week.

  2. Breakfast in bed - A classic and still the best way to enjoy the first meal of the day. Set your alarm early and prepare your husband-to-be's favourite breakfast, all ready to be enjoyed under the duvet.

  3. Compliment him - Tell your h2b and everyone else just why you love him so much at every opportunity.

  4. Dress to impress - Banish your slouchy jeans and comfy slippers whenever you're in the mood for romance. When your h2b sees you've made a special effort, he'll know he's in for something more than a night in front of the television.

  5. End on a high note - Let romance be the last thing you think of as you drift off to sleep. Never go to bed without saying, 'I love you', no matter how tired you are, how early you need to get up or how interesting your book is!

  6. First-class post - The post is an under-used tool in the romancer's armoury, so why not use the element of surprise and send your husband-to-be a love note whenever you're parted for more than a day? And don't forget to seal the envelope with a kiss.

  7. Get in the kitchen - Thanks to Nigella and Gordon, cooking is now infused as much with passion as it is with flavours. Make time to try out your favourite recipes on each other and impress with your culinary skills on a regular basis.

  8. Hold on tight - Don't miss out on any chances to grab your h2b's hand and make the most of a romantic stroll together!

  9. I'm in the mood for dancing - Whether it's your first dance tune, the first CD he bought you or just a favourite track on the radio, pull your partner close whenever a great tune is playing and slow dance your way to bliss.

  10. Jargon - Build your very own language of love by inventing code words between you and your husband-tobe. Drop them into the conversation whenever you're feeling amorous!

  11. Kiss me quick! - Or maybe slow? Take every opportunity to share a kiss with your h2b and make the most of it - turn every clinch into a full-blown, Hollywood-style smacker to really pump up the volume on romance.

  12. Let's go fly a kite - Get outdoors with your man for a frivolous and fun activity. From kite-flying to tandem bicycling, find something fun to do and enjoy each other's company.

  13. Matchmaking - Sounds unlikely, but a great way to up the romance on your relationship is to spread the love around! Start comparing notes with your guy about your single friends and see if any are compatible. You could be the key to many beautiful relationships and recapture some of the thrill from when you were dating.

  14. Nicknames - Every couple has their own special names for one another - they're unique, ultra-personal and a sweet way to add a little romance into every conversation you have.

  15. Occupational hazards! - Ban any work chat with your partner at certain times, whether it's during meal times or when you're in the car. Find other, more romantic topics of conversation - it will be much more fun, we promise!

  16. Plant a tree - What better symbol is there of a strengthening relationship than watching your own tree grow over the years? Plant one in your own garden or see if your local arboretum or park has a tree-planting scheme.

  17. Quality time - Turn off your phones, unplug the TV and lock the front door to set the scene for some true 'couple' time. Take the opportunity to reconnect however you like…

  18. Rose ceremonies - Include one of these in your wedding ceremony and you'll make a promise to leave a rose in a particular place in your home on your anniversary and every time you have cross words with each other during your marriage. It's a simple way to forgive one another after an argument and a reminder of your love and the vows you made.

  19. Surprise! - A great way to keep romance alive in a relationship is with unexpected treats, from buying your h2b his favourite chocolate bar, to preparing the way for an intimate evening alone after a hard day at work.

  20. Treasure hunt - Add some mystery to your h2b's day by leaving an intriguing trail of clues for him to find you. Perhaps you'll be waiting somewhere at home, or, for a little more fun, a location for dinner? Text and email him clues through the day and see how quickly he discovers your whereabouts!

  21. Undercover - We're not talking disguises here! How about spending a night under canvas, beneath the stars? Sounds romantic, doesn't it? And it's no problem if the wind's howling outside either, just snuggle up to keep warm!

  22. Very important vows - The promises you made in front of all your guests on your wedding day are some of the most significant words you'll ever speak. Up the romance stakes at any moment by repeating your promises and watch your partner's heart melt as the memories from your big day come flooding back.

  23. Wallow in your wedding day! - Relive the memories of your big day by grabbing your wedding album whenever you and your husband need an injection of romance in your day. Cuddle up and pick your favourite moments from the most important day of your lives.

  24. X-rated - Don't forget to sign off your notes to one another with a loving kiss… or five! Use text messages and personal emails to tell your h2b when you're thinking of him and don't be stingy with your kisses either! Why not send a text full of them? A little text flirting never hurt anyone!

  25. "Your marriage will benefit from an injection of passion to keep the flame alive…"

  26. Young, foolish and happy - Stop worrying about all the boring stuff in life, forget you're an adult and let your inner teenager out - that means having fun! Laughter is a great stress buster and it works wonders in a relationship, so make each other giggle!

  27. Zero tolerance - Let boredom and monotony have no place in your relationship - as ever-changing and complex as it is, your marriage will benefit from an injection of passion at any time to keep the flame alive. After all, a classic romance never goes out of date.
