Not only can getting married be a costly affair for the bride and groom but also for the wedding guests, as a new outfit, a wedding gift, time off work, baby sitters, and the cost of attending a hen or stag party are all part of the bill. No-one wants to be a party pooper though so what can you do?

Hen and stag parties have seen a shift from the traditional evening celebration to long weekend breaks in the UK/Europe and even to week long holidays in the sun. Whilst it's an exciting time for those involved, the event shouldn't be marred with the stress of spiralling costs. So if you have been appointed the all important 'Hen Party Planner' role, here are some top tips from GoHen.com, the UK's market leaders in organising quality, yet affordable hen party activities and breaks to make sure all hen's have a cracking time!

Fact

Hen parties for the most part appear slightly different from stag groups in their approach to booking events. Typically a hen will be concerned about being exposed in any capacity to the group, she will worry more than stags but in most cases she'll be planning in more detail to mitigate any shortfall in preparation. Hens also book less things to do as they fear being ripped off and will often attempt to organise various activities on a one-to-one basis as opposed to booking complete packages with a service provider when planning. The key is to book with a reputable, recommended and reliable company like GoHen.com who provide excellent value for money packages, professional assurances, not to mention saving money in time, calls, confirmations, hassle, pressure, to do lists etc.

Helpful tip

Getting costs down equates to what value the hens are after, setting a budget from the outset when planning is a smart way to go. With no hidden surprises the hens are better placed to manage their finances around the event. Choosing the right evening itinerary is key as this is where the event will get away from you financially.

Keep it real

GoHen.com highlights the importance for hen's to be flexible and adopt a realistic approach to planning the hen party. It really is a waste of time if the group has unachievable expectations. For example a one night stay in Brighton or Bournemouth in high season is extremely unlikely (if available) and it will be painfully expensive, but if the hens change to another city, for example Birmingham or Bristol they can have just as much fun at a lower cost without being a party pooper. Make sure you check our our hen night survival guide for some great tips on having a good time!

Getting costs down is also about setting the ceiling - make the decision for the group and then stick with it. Don't then allow the group to bully you into changes as that's a very easy way to escalate expense. A lot of it is to do with having the confidence to take the plunge, as you don't want to be remembered for organising a bad hen party! At the end of the day if the hens are good friends, with a well planned itinerary, they will have fun anywhere.

9 party pooper niggles for the Hen organiser…

  • Numbers - Will there be a good turnout for the event, understanding who will and won't be coming, making sure the bride is not upset with those who can't attend

  • Money - Getting the hens to pay on time for deposits and balance deadlines

  • Timing - Make sure the right date/time is booked for the activities chosen, and ensure everyone sticks to the schedule and doesn't turn up late! This has a knock on effect and could ruin the flow of the day/night/weekend leading to accusations of being the party pooper!

  • Location, Location, Location - Getting the right venue is a massive worry. Supposing it's too quiet, too busy, not central, etc.

  • Reputation - Will everyone have a good time and talk about the party for months or even years to come?

  • Content - Are there enough activities/events planned to keep everyone happy and entertained?

  • Value - Does everyone consider the trip value for money?

GoHen.com works hard to partner with the best suppliers across the UK/Europe to ensure the above concerns are stamped out the minute the hen's book with GoHen.com. They offer a free planning process; you only book once you're happy with everything! Check out the great testimonials here.
