Thailand. A luxury honeymoon destination with adventure, food and fun

If you want adventure, luxury and golden sands on your honeymoon, then Thailand will be right up your street!

Where is it?

We visited two popular hot spots for a honeymoon in Thailand, both very different in their offerings. Firstly, Koh Chang, one of Thailand’s best-kept secrets, is the second-largest island off Thailand located on the east Thai coast. It’s 310km away from Bangkok and can only be reached by a ferry or long-tail boat. Secondly, the vibrant and energetic Pattaya, just one hour from Bangkok.

What is there to do?

The great thing about Thailand is the variety of activities it has to offer on a honeymoon – you can do anything from romancing your loved one on a secluded island to jungle trekking or discovering hidden temples. In Koh Chang, we stayed at the Amari Emerald Cove Hotel, which is a perfect location for newlyweds to escape the hustle and bustle of the streets. Koh Chang has a vast climate with an almost tropical island setting, sparkling blue waters and a background of mountains! You can sip a refreshing cocktail by the beach-front pool (we recommend the Mai Tai!), then treat yourself to one of the many signature spa treatments at the resort’s Sivara Spa, set on the secluded Klong Prao beach. Or you could try your hand at a Thai cookery lesson! When the sun goes down, enjoy a romantic sunset dining experience for two on the beach under a midnight blue sky. The perfect day for a newly married couple on honeymoon!

For adventurous honeymoon types that want to step outside the luxurious cocoon of the hotel, take an early-morning trip out to the local elephant camp for a spot of trekking on the incredible animals. The half-day trek includes elephant bathing, feeding, performance and a trek into the forest. Remember to take your camera and capture some truly memorable snaps! For all honeymoon activities, simply ask the staff at the hotel who’ll be more than happy to arrange these on your behalf.

Where to stay?

We stayed at the Amari Emerald Cove in Koh Chang and the Amari Orchid in Pattaya. The Amari Emerald Cove is a five-star resort, which has 165 rooms and suites, all with views of either the sea to the west or the jungle-covered hills to the east. The Amari Orchid has the incredible Ocean Tower, a luxury venue which soars 20 floors into the sky with contemporary rooms and stunning views of Pattaya Bay.

What about the rooms?

The Amari Group offers a high standard of luxury accommodation and amenities across all of its resorts, so you won’t be disappointed whichever one you choose. Our favourite was the Amari Emerald Cove, which offers guests an array of luxury rooms and breathtaking views of the mountains and the sea from your own private balcony. Enjoy special touches like chocolates on your pillow before bed and fresh flowers scattered around your room for a truly romantic honeymoon atmosphere.

Can you get married there?

Yes, you can and we highly recommend it! Why wouldn’t you want to exchange your vows in paradise? The Amari resorts have experienced wedding planners on site to help you plan every elementof your special day. They can organise luxury accommodation for you and your guests, as well as private day trips exploring the gorgeous island to keep everyone happy and entertained. What more could a newlywed couple want?

Thailand is wonderful for a honeymoon but why not have a real Thai wedding experience try Chiang Mai. There you can get a traditional Thai Buddhist wedding just as they did hundreds of years ago.
A resort style wedding is just so standard.
