This real wedding couple weren’t going to let heavy snow get in the way of their dream wedding day…
WHO: Charlotte and Lester
WHERE: Northbrook Park, Farnham
WHEN: December 2010
PHOTOGRAPHER: Kim Hawkins Photography
“Shortly after Christmas 2009, Lester told me he was planning something special for Valentine’s Day the following year, and I wasn’t to ask any questions,” remembers Charlotte. “Two days before we were due to leave, I was given some clues about what to pack, but I didn’t find out we were heading to Dubai until we reached the airport. On Valentine’s night, after a beautiful candlelit meal, he popped the question overlooking the beach. I’m also pleased to say he had chosen the ring very well, it truly sparkled in the moonlight!”
The bride’s real wedding outfit
Charlotte shone in her heavenly Fiorisimo designed dress. “Because our real wedding was a Christmas celebration, I felt the dress fitted perfectly,” she recalls. “The tiny gems glistened, and my faux-mink shrug kept me nice and warm during the outside photos,” she adds
“We wanted a traditional day – with a bit of Charlotte and Lester fun!”
Charlotte chose LK Bennet heels and four diamanté hair pins for her simple, yet elegant finishing touches. Her sister also gave her a special gift – Victoria’s Secret undies that she picked up while travelling in America. The knickers even said ‘bride to be’ on the back!
The groom’s outfit
Lester and his boys all looked super stylish in their traditional real wedding tails hired from Dapper. The ushers, best man and fathers also wore novelty socks with wording showing their role for the day, just in case they forgot!
Charlotte’s big-day beauties wore divine Dessy dresses in an eye-catching shade of burgundy. The couple’s five-year-old niece, their flowergirl, walked down the real wedding aisle before the bride, scattering rose petals as she went
“Neither of us are particularly religious, hence we preferred a civil ceremony,” says Charlotte. “However, due to such heavy snowfall, with five minutes to go, we only had 20 guests out of 118. Thankfully a few more people did manage to arrive during the service,” adds Charlotte.
To decorate Northbrook Park, the couple used a 12 days of Christmas theme, with each table following the lyrics of the song. Candles, flowers and Christmas crackers were the perfect finishing touches. Also, for a cute personal touch, Charlotte’s students from the primary school where she works made hanging Christmas decorations
“Due to the snow, we only had 20 out of 118 guests turn up to the wedding ceremony”
“Straight after the first dance, two of our friends, dressed in inflatable Father Christmas outfits, ran out and led a dance to Mariah Carey’s All I Want For Christmas Is You!” laughs Charlotte. “We wanted a traditional day but with a Charlotte and Lester slice of fun!”
Because of the snow, a Maldives trip had to be postponed until later in the year.
